I may have mentioned once or twice or a hundred times that I like to pick up some accessories while I am on holidays. I like the idea of getting some things that I won’t see on every second person when I get home. As much as I love the high street, it’s nice to find some rare and unusual accessories. It’s lovely browsing through the market stalls and eclectic boutiques when you are away. I would love to buy clothes too but when I am on a holiday and covered in sun cream the last thing I want to do is try on clothes especially when it is really hot. So here is a look at all that I got.

Parfois Necklace
This necklace is actually from Parfois which now has a few shops in Ireland and a website that delivers, but when I first spotted Parfois in Portugal last year they were not in Ireland. I really like Parfois and had to stop myself from buying more.

Lefties Necklace
This necklace is from a shop called Lefties, which I believe is owned by the same parent company as Zara. It was originally set up to sell Zara’s last season stock but now is a brand in it’s own right and is around the same price point as Penneys.

Lilac Necklace
This cutie necklace is from an independent boutique. It’s very different from anything else I own. With it being lilac I thought it would be a summer only necklace but I have worn it loads already with darker colours against which it stands out nicely.

Coral Necklace
This necklace is also from a boutique, you can never have too many coral necklaces.

Purple and Teal Pashmina Aqua and Pink Pashmina

These pashminas are from a market stall. I know they are similar but couldn’t decide between the lighter or darker colour, since they were only a fiver each, my impatiently waiting husband told me to get them both.

Brown Pumps with Gold Disk
I am always picking up flat pumps, I have loads but these are totally different.
Do you like to shop while you are on holidays?

Today’s style post is slightly different. Instead of showing you a whole outfit, I am just showing you some accessories I feel will work well for this in between period we are in now, which is end of summer / beginning of autumn. Some of these accessories are new and you won’t have actually seen before because they have been worked into outfits that I have done posts on previously and so may not have actually been in any posts themselves, until now. Others you may recognize from previous posts.

Teal Necklace

This necklace may have made it into the occasional post before. It is a gorgeous teal, which is always a lovely rich colour but it’s not too dark so it doesn’t look out of place when it is sunny out. I picked this up in the market in Limerick.

Blue Bracelet

The bracelet is a cute combination of cobalt blue ovals a baby blue rectangles. I don’t wear bracelets that often because I usually always wear a watch and sometimes I think wearing both is a bit too much. This bracelet is dainty enough that you could still wear it with or without a watch. A quick look at what is new in the shops now, tells me that cobalt blue will be a popular colour for the coming season. I got this bracelet in a market while on holidays in Portugal.

ASOS blue earrings

These cute little dangly earrings are from ASOS. These turquoise type stones are the kind of jewellery that looks good with boho styles. Since Boho often involves layering it’s a trend that is perfect for autumn as layering knit wear over summer dresses is a great way to get more wear out of them.

River Island Sling Back Peep Toe Loafer

These peep toe, sling back loafers are from River Island. They are great because there is a bit more coverage to them than flip flops or strappy sandals, but they are not quite full on socks and closed in shoes just yet. It can be hard, after allowing your feet to be free all summer, to try and close them back in. These sling back loafers are also a good option for work, because they look a bit smarter than other sandal styles.

Penneys Teal and Blue Scarf

Scarfs may have been shunned during the muggy heat but they will be making a comeback as the temperatures start to drop. Scarfs are a great way of dressing up a plain top. I love the teal and blue print in this one. It’s from Penneys.

What accessories will you be wearing in the coming weeks.

As expected I bought a few accessories while I was on holiday in Portugal, but surprisingly not as much as anticipated. I feel I was really quite restrained, but with statement necklaces being such a big trend, I took the opportunity to pick up one or three. Strangely enough I only bought one pair of shoes; don’t worry, I’m not sick or anything. So here are some pictures of what I got:

Gold Filigree Statement Necklace Gold Filigree Statement Necklace

This gold filigree statement necklace with a huge pearl centre surround by diamantes was my first purchase. I have been looking for a gold statement necklace for a while. I think they look great with a dark coloured (especially dark blue) round neckline. This one will also look great with a lower or v-neckline because the shape kind of comes to a point.

Black Diamante and Velvet Strip Statement Necklace Black Diamante and Velvet Strip Statement Necklace

I like that this necklace will add a bit of edge to any outfit. There is a fair bit of detail here with the black stones, the velvet strips and the chain link wrapping all around.

Teal and Plum Jewel Statement Necklace Teal and Plum Jewel Statement Necklace Teal and Plum Jewel Statement Necklace

Purple and green are my two equally favourite colours, so it was immediately love when I saw this piece with teal and plum jewels. I can’t wait to wear this out. Someone take me out! Please.

Gold Tipped Pumps Gold Tipped Pumps

These pumps were too cute to leave behind. I’ve been on the lookout for blue pumps but have only seen plain ones. The gold tips on these added a bit of interest and class. They can look really dressy for flat shoes.

Macaroons Macaroons

Technically, macaroons are not accessories but with their bright and pretty colours there was no way I was going to pass by these without snapping a few up. I was impressed that they were €1 each or €5.50 for 6; I’ve never bought macaroons in Brown Thomas because they seem so extravagantly expensive for what are essentially biscuits. I have to say I am hooked now because they are so yummy!

So what have been your best holiday purchases?

I assume many people are like me in respect of how they go through phases with accessories. I find myself reaching for the same bits and pieces over and over again over a period of time and then it all changes and I start reaching for a new set of accessories. Accessory trends are tied in with clothing trends and change from season to season. I figured it was time I showed you what’s getting my love at the moment because I’m off on holidays and I do love to pick up some bits and pieces in markets, stalls and local shops while I’m away. As much as I love a bargain in Penneys, there is something so satisfying about buying something and knowing no one at home will have it.
So here is a look at the accessories that I am loving at the moment:

Turquoise Necklace
You have seen this necklace in a few posts already. I bought it in Penneys. Turquoise is always classy and this piece really adds a lovely pop of colour to so many outfits.

??????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????

I actually picked both of these scarves up in a bric-a-brac value shop. With the warm and humid weather I usually wear these loosely with a t-shirt, blazer and jeans when heading out in the evening.

??????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????

This is my new favourite belt. You may be seeing a lot of this because the pale pink is girly and the studs give it a bit of edge. Because it’s nude it goes with everything and I love the little turn lock buckle.

There was a post on recently that said big wrist jewellery and cuffs were going to be a big trend so I dug out this little beauty. My older sister gave it to me years ago when she finished with the glam rock phase.

Dangling chandelier earrings have been another big trend for summer and I have been wearing these ones from New Look.

Another green necklace, but this one is a little bit daintier and far more subtle than some of my others. It’s Jaime La Vie from Carraig Donn.

This knuckle duster is also from Awear. I just like that it is eye catching and pretty.
What accessories are getting your love at the moment?

I was talking to a friend of mine, a girl who is very social and outgoing, always participating in something and is a part of a few sports teams. The result of all this participation and socializing is instead of having one small-knit group of close friends like most of us, she is part of quite a few small-knit groups of friends and is quite close with lots of girls. This is great for her most of the time, except now that she is turning 30, as are most of her many friends, she is in the thick of wedding invites. In fact she is invited to 10 weddings and 10 hen parties this year. So I thought I would do a few posts on wedding guest style to give people a few ideas of how to mix and match dresses and accessories. Hopefully you will get a few ideas on putting colours together and how certain shapes and styles can work for you. These posts may also give you some inspiration for other occasions other than weddings and maybe show you how to rework a dress that you wore to a wedding so that you can wear it again to something else. The point is to get value out of both the accessories and the dresses.

I’ll be honest, I’m not a “that’ll do” kinda girl when it comes to getting glammed up. I love getting all glammed up for a special occasion and everything has to be just so. I know for some of you it’s your idea of a nightmare but I really love every bit of it from shopping for all the coordinating bits and pieces, getting tan and hair done, doing my nails and makeup. I just love being done up to the nines as they say. So you don’t have to go all out like me but hopefully these posts will give you some inspiration for what’ll work for you.

This blue dress is by Calvin Klein and I bought it on eBay. I spotted it on an American department store web site that does ship to Ireland but they won’t ship Calvin Klein internationally, so I stalked eBay until I found it and for a lot cheaper too. This is probably the most comfortable occasion wear dress that I have ever owned. It fits me perfectly, the material is thick enough to not require special seamless underwear and the ruffle is perfectly placed across the tummy to disguise any after dinner bloating. I loves it, I loves it a lot. You can easily find a similar dress to this, there are loads of peplum dresses out there in this blue colour and you can find them as cheap or as expensive as you like.

And now to accessorise it. First up, my favourite colour with this blue is orange.

The shoes are Kurt Geiger, the wrap, fascinator and bag are from a shop in Galway called Glitzi Bitz.
Some orange jewelry can look cheap and tacky so I went with amber because it looks a bit classier.

The necklace is from Gerards (a shop I am always trying to get my mom to shop in but their accessories are quite good), the earrings and ring are from eBay.

Second, we have the berry pink. Bright fuchsia pink would be an obvious choice but everyone does that, so to be different I went with a richer berry toned pink.

?????????????????????? ??????????????????????

The wrap and bag are Star by Julien McDonald at Debenhams.  The shoes are Menbur and I must declare that I love Menbur shoes. They are the only brand of court shoes that stay on my heel and are comfortable, no need for insoles, party feet, heel shields, sore spots . . . absolutely no modification required.

The necklace and earrings are from Boots that’s right, the pharmacy (how many times have you walked past those stands; filled with little gems, so they are).

Other colours that would look great with blue are bright aqua and lime green and I am eyeing a pair of lime shoes and matching clutch at the moment, fingers crossed they are on sale soon.  Have you any other colour suggestions for accessorising a blue dress?

On Saturday night I headed out for a few drinks with some friends and I wore this plum dress and leopard print accessories combo. You see a lot of people dipping into the animal print trend by wearing leopard print with black. I think the plum is a fresh take on the trend and makes for something a bit different.

The dress is from Awear. The wrap detail and the pleating to the waist make it quite flattering.

The belt is from Pennys.

I bought this necklace in Protugal and it has previously been in this post.

The shoes are from Dunnes. I was agonising over whether to buy a pair from Karen Millen or Dune both were about €90ish but with slight differences in the colour, but then I spotted these in Dunnes for €16 and I figured it was enough to spend because I probably won’t wear leopard print shoes all that often.

The clutch bag is my old faithful Guess clutch that I have had for ages and it features in some previous posts (like here and here, which also shows another plum combo).

A Few of My Favourite Things: Accessories I’m Using Most at the Moment.

Whiskers on kittens don’t rate high on my list. I’m bit more materialistic than that, me likes a bit of bling. You often hear of fashion items being referred to as investments, much to the annoyance of most men, particularly those who work in a finance related role. The thing with accessories is that when I first buy something I like to wear it loads, then I get tired of it or get something new and it gets put away for a while. But then I buy a new dress or top that it would be perfect with and it gets taken out again for while. You can keep going back to accessories time and time again, so if you divide the initial purchase price by the number of times you wear it, cost per wear is tiny, so it is an investment. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Here are a few of the items that I’m reaching for the most at the moment:

First up is bags

Both Micheal Kors, The black bag is my current everyday bag and the green one is a clutch that I use for nights out.

??????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????

Guess Clutch: A black clutch is something that will get lots of use.

I can never understand how anyone would buy a beautiful bag and then chuck it on a dirty floor. This little handbag hook comes everywhere with me.

Of course I have to have a scarf or 50:

L-r Awear, Pennys/Primark, and the last one is from a stall in Portugal

Next some Jewellery:

All three of these necklaces are from Carraig Donn.

The amber necklace is from Gerrards and the ring is from ebay.

Surprisingly I wear this pink DKNY watch with everything.

And the finishing touch is a signature scent, for me I love both Mack Jacobs Daisy and Daisy so Fresh.

Watch this space because with the changing seasons, my most used accessories are bound to be changing soon. What is getting your love at the moment, do you like to switch it up regularly?
