Sorry but as much as I love blogging, when the sun is shining the last place I want to be is inside writing a post. It is such a rare treat in Ireland for us to have beautiful clear blue skies and warm sunshine especially two whole days of it at the weekend when I am off work so I feel it’s important to take full advantage and get out and enjoy it. With that in mind this will be a quick face of the day post using a BB cream for a lighter base. When the sun shines we are all about pared back more natural looking makeup so we go all BB mad.

Although when I lay out all the products that I use for a “pared back natural look”, I have to wonder.

Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream

I’ve never really jumped on the BB cream band wagon. I’ve dipped my toes in and tried a few here and there but normally I could take or leave them. BB creams were all the rage with bloggers during the summer for their lighter and more natural coverage. However, I have oily skin and with the humidity of summer and all the moisturising properties of BB creams, I can’t wear them without powder on top, which defeats the purpose of wearing the BB cream to keep coverage lighter and more natural. I have had this Ginvera BB cream for a while now and only started wearing it recently. What I am finding is this is great for now, since I don’t really need finishing powder. What I am loving about it is that it doesn’t look like I’m wearing makeup when I have it on. So those that don’t see me in the mornings think I have great skin. Mwahahaha. Maybe I shouldn’t have posted the pictures below.

These pictures were taken on the morning after the night before. I was out for a few drinks and as you can see, some of my face is red and some of it is pale, some might say I look a bit shook.

I was seriously impressed by how well the Ginvera BB cream even out the redness and warmed my complexion, while being very light in coverage. The darkness under my eyes didn’t show in the first pictures but I can tell you I have dark lines under my eyes everyday that are worse after a night out. This BB cream brightened up the area enough to chance a day without a heap of concealer.

In these pictures I’ve used the BB instead of my usual foundation in my normal makeup routine. I’ve used Mac Mineralise Skinfinsh powder, blush, filled in my eyebrows and then added some eye makeup.

Are you on the BB band wagon? What is your favourite BB cream?

I am facing into the impossible task of trying to choose what products to bring with me on holidays to Portugal. I’m not a hand luggage only kinda gal and since I am going for ten days, I’ll need adequate supplies. We are staying in a five star (save your “ooh, no recession round here” because we got a good deal on alpharooms.com when we booked way back in January) so I expect the toiletries in the room will be decent but I still prefer to have my products with me. You never know how you might react to something when you factor in the extra heat of a sun holiday. So what’s making the cut?

Facial Skincare:

??????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????

Cleanser: La Roche Posey Physiological Foam Water, I reviewed the gel version of this here, I liked it so much I went to repurchase it but was tempted to try the foaming version for a change.
Serum & Moisturiser: L’Oreal Skin Perfection, I’ve only started using these so I will do a full review when I’ve given them a full trial, but initial impressions are very good.
Eye Cream: Sample size of Vichy LiftActiv Serum 10 Eyes & Lashes

Hair and Body:

Body Wash: Dove Purely Pampering Shea Butter with Warm Vanilla
Shampoo and Conditioner Sheer Blonde Highlight Activating Moisturising range
Deodorant: Dove Invisible Dry Compressed

Sun Screens: Piz Buin Tan Accelerator, SPF 15 & 6, believe it or not I can tan

Obviously I wouldn’t go to a warm country without adequate primers:

MAC Prep & Prime for under foundation
MAC Prep & Prime BB Cream for occasional day use instead of foundation
MAC Paint Pot in Painterly for eyelid primer

The old reliables for a perfect base:

Foundation: Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24 Hour
Colour Corrector: Bobbi Brown – under eyes
Concealer: MAC Pro Longwear
Finishing Powder: MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural Light
Contour: MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural Medium Deep

Now the fun stuff, eyes:

MAC Mineralise Eyeshadows in Fireside, Twilight Falls, and Summer Haze
MAC Eyeshadows in Omega (for Brows) Satin Taupe, All That Glitters, and Nylon (to use as a highlighter)

Liners: Rimmel Scandaleyes in Bronze & Smashbox Limitless Eyeliner in Black Violet
Mascara: Lancôme Hypnose Drama

Blush & Lips:

MAC Powder Blush in Peaches (my all-time favourite)
Dior Addict in Jet Set
Clarins Joli Rouge in Sweet Plum

I know it seems like a lot but I am sure I am forgetting something (I might leave out some of the eyeshadows). Any other suggestions, anything important that I am leaving out?

MAC Prep & Prime BB Cream MAC Prep & Prime BB Cream

If you read my post on Monday about my new makeup storage, you would know I recently organised my makeup and in the process found a few things I had forgotten about. Finding my MAC Prep & Prime BB cream couldn’t have been better timing. I originally bought this in the airport while heading on my holidays and it proved to be an excellent holiday companion. Now that summer has arrived here and the weather has been heating up over the last week or so, this is my new best friend.

MAC Prep & Prime BB cream has an SPF of 35, which is quite good in comparison to other BBs and foundations, which often have no sun protection at all. This Beauty Balm is a very light beige tinted cream, but it so sheer it will work for fair to medium skin tones. It blends perfectly on me now that I’m my usual pale but it also worked perfect when I actually had a tan. I’m not sure there are any BB skin care benefits, I think this meant to be more of a tinted primer than a true BB.

This will come in handy if you are heading to the beach with some friends. A full face of makeup can look a bit OTT and just down-right silly at the beach but it’s hard to go out in public without a little something on as a security blanket. Just this BB on its own is enough to even out my skin tone; reducing redness and blueness. It’s enough to cover the pasty-ness, but subtle enough to look like there is nothing there.

(With MAC Prep & Prime BB, MAC MSF Natural powder, concealer, blush, highlighter, & MAC omega for brows)

I know a lot of you will want to lighten up the load (so to speak) in terms of the amount of makeup you put on your face now that it’s summer. We all want to be fresh faced as we scamper through meadows with flowers in our hair. BB creams seem to be the preferred choice for many of us for the warmer days. I have been using this instead of my usual foundation; a little concealer, finishing powder, blush, highlighter and brow product and I’m good to go. Ok still a lot of products but needs must.

As you would expect from a MAC Prep and Prime product, this lasts really well throughout the day and evening, even now that it’s more humid. It even lasted well through a very sweaty run in the gym.

Are you making any changes to you makeup routine for the summer?
