Um birr! Last week I may have hinted that this week would involve some chunky knitwear and I am sticking to my word. The temperatures are dropping and the evenings are closing in (cliché limit reached for this week). As we head into autumn and on to winter I love pairing the rich warm colours with cosy cream knitwear. I think strong rich colours and soft cream knits look so comforting together.
This swing dress is from River Island. I am really loving shades of burgundy and aubergine this season. I really have to stop myself from buying everything I see in these shades. This dress is so comfy and easy to wear. This would be a good outfit to wear on a day of shopping as it’s easy and quick to get in and out of, so great for when you will be trying on loads of clothes in all the shops, just swap the heels for some flats.
This hooded Aran style long cardigan is old and it was from boohoo.com. It’s a warm soft knit that works well with dresses or jeans. If you spot something similar to this in the shops I recommend picking it up because I wear this lot. A really easy outfit with this cardigan would be black top and black jeans, with tan belt and tan boots.
The necklace is from Parfois. I do always say a round neck needs a little something and this necklace is just perfect with this dress.
The ankle boots are Redz. I am on the search for my perfect casual black ankle boot with a small heel or wedge.
Are you wrapping up in the chunky knits yet?
It’s Friday again and one thing is for sure; there is definitely a nip in the air this week. When temperatures start to drop, it’s easy to forget about style; being warm is top priority. All I want when it is cold out are chunky, cosy knits. It’s hard to keep chunky and warm cardigans from looking frumpy. I think the best way to wear bulky knits and still look somewhat fashionable is to team the knitwear with a pretty dress and some studded boots. The pretty dress adds a bit of glam to the look while the boots bring some edge. Seemingly contrasting items can look really good together.
This Aran style cardigan is actually from boohoo.com. It is really warm and cosy but it’s also a very nice piece of knitwear. I love the toggle buttons.
This teal swallow print dress is from New Look. If you have been reading this blog for a while you will know I find it hard to resist anything in teal. I will still get loads of wear out of this pretty dress in the far away summer.
Biker boots would be great with this outfit but I have these studded boots with a small block heel from Marco Tozi. Since I’m only 5’, 2” I prefer boots with a heel. Although a good pair of black flat ankle boots are high on my wish list so I can move faster when trying to dash out of rain and hail showers. Loads of you will have bought biker boots last year and you can dust them off now, if you haven’t already done so, because they are still hot for this year.
How do you like to wear your cosy cardigans?
We all know how much I love the colour green and I really like subtle leopard prints lately so this top was always going to be mine. Here I am all ready to go for a night out with a few friends.
This gorgeous top is a beautiful and vibrant green with a hint of blue in the print. The brand name is Glamorous and I bought it in Awear.
I decided to team it with my skater skirt; it hasn’t been getting enough wear since I bought it. This skirt is from boohoo.com. I added the black and gold belt to give a little more definition to my waist. The belt is from Penneys/Primark.
This necklace was a holiday purchase from Portugal. Any excuse to wear it and it ties in with the belt.
It was decisions, decisions when it came to the shoes. The black shoes are from New Look and the blue ones are Dune. On the one hand the blue ties in with the hint of blue in the print, which isn’t really showing up in the pictures, and they are gorgeous shoes, that are begging to be worn. On the other the gold detail on the heels of the black shoes works with the belt and necklace. I went with the black because the heel is shorter making them the more comfortable option. What can I tell you, comfort is winning out as I age. I may have to look into the possibility of getting the heel of the blue shoes reduced. Please do let me know if you have any experience with this.
I really like this top but funnily enough, when I wear it, my husband compliments it a lot. If I’m doing the whole, what’ll I wear thing, he usually suggests this top. It’s always surprising when your partner notices and actually says that they like what you’re wearing. Usually when I ask if something looks nice and he says yes, I get the impression he is just saying yes so I don’t go and change and we can actually leave the house. I have worn this top out with jeans but here is how I wore it on a recent night out.
In fairness it is a gorgeous top. The green colour is so bright and vibrant and lace detail is delicate and pretty. You also have the contrast of the strong, almost neon green with the black. The top is from boohoo.com
This skirt is from Awear. I love the lace and think it works well with the top. I was looking for a skirt like this for a while now and finally spotted it in Awear when I least expected it.
The shoes are from New Look. Once again I am loving these pointed toe courts with just about everything.
The strong colour and lots of lace make for a lot of detail so I thought accessories might be overkill. I just brought little black Guess bag..
The moment I saw this long line blouse, I had to have it. It came in a few colours but surprise, surprise I settled on this duck egg blue. If you have been following this blog you will know I am partial to anything in the duck egg blue / mint green range. Obviously after buying it, I couldn’t wait to wear it. This is how I wore it on a recent night out.
This chiffon long line and hi lo blouse is from Vero Moda. I absolutely love the beading and sequins detail on the collar and shoulders.
Because of this detail I decided not to wear a necklace, as I didn’t want anything to take away from it. I kept it simple with these earrings from Pulse Accessories. Under the chiffon blouse I wore a long line black vest top, also from Vero Moda and the leggings are from Swamp.
I didn’t wear a belt on the night because I liked the floaty feel of the look but you could easily add a belt if you wanted a little definition at the waist.
The pointed toe courts are from New Look. You’ve probably seen them in previous post and you are very likely to seen them in future ones because I am really into the pointed toe court trend at the moment.
The blazer is from boohoo.com and the clutch is a favourite of mine and its Michael Kors.
The skater skirt has been around for a while now but I only bought one recently. I have a few skater style dresses but this is my first skater skirt. The great thing about a dress is it’s a whole outfit in one go; all you need is a few accessories and your done. There is no need to go rummaging through your entire wardrobe to find something to go with it. With a skirt however, you have the whole, does it match, does it work, and does the first top I had on look better with it. Anyway I’ve been thinking about my skater skirt for a while and this is what I came up with.
It’s a fairly versatile outfit that would easily take you from day to night.
The coral top is from Penneys and the colour is quite vibrant. I thought the strong colour would contrast nicely with the black skirt.
The belt is also from Penneys and I like how it ties in with the gold buttons on the blouse. The skater skirt is from boohoo.com
I really like the way leopard print looks with coral and orange tones. The leopard print shoes are from Dunnes.
The cream and gold necklace is from Penneys.
Happy Friday folks. This week has been a bit of a busy one for me to say the least. I’ve been taken part in a challenge to climb Croagh Patrick seven days in a row, starting on Monday and finishing on Sunday, so still a few climbs to go. As you might expect, my primary concern style wise this week, is comfort; but fear not I’m not in a track suit. In fact this post shows you that you can dress nice and still be comfortable. So there goes that excuse for living in trackies and hoodies.
This nautical style cropped cardigan is from boohoo.com. The nautical trend pops up just about every Spring/Summer season, so dipping into the trend won’t be money wasted as you’ll get to wear it year after year.
Once again the jeans are from New Look, I bought a few pairs in similar colours when I realised how much I like these super skinny jeans. The perfect jean is hard to find, so if you can, stock up when you find them. The t-shirt is just a plain navy t-shirt from Penneys.
Now the necklace is a nice pop of colour. Turquoise jewellery is another trend that reappears each Spring/Summer so it’s only right that I put them together. This turquoise necklace is from Penneys. I think it looks far more expensive that its €5 price tag.
The shoes are, yup you guessed it, from Penneys. This entire outfit is made up from boohoo.com, New Look and Penneys. So now we have comfortable and inexpensive ticked, what’s your excuse?
