Well it’s been another beautiful week of sunshine and warm temperatures and it looks set to continue next week too; woohoo! Spring is finally here so it’s time to break out the softer colours and lighter layers.
This beautiful baby pink waterfall blazer is from the brand Pala D’oro from Carraig Donn. This blazer has a lovely loose and flowy shape as well as a soft crepe texture. Its light enough that I won’t be sweltering if I wear it on summer nights out but it’s warm enough for now as well. The colour is a perfect pastel for this time of year; it really gives a spring time feel. Baby pink is a colour that I’m not that bothered about myself, but I always get loads of compliments on how the colour suits me when I wear it.
The top is old and it’s from H & M. There are loads of similar style tops in the shops now; there was even a very similar one with long sleeves in Carraig Donn. The high neck and lace details makes this top really pretty, especially paired with this jacket. But this top could also have a festival or boho vibe if it was worn with denim cut off shorts or a floral maxi skirt or anything with fringing.
The jeans are the Erin Jeggings from River Island. I recently sang their praises in this post so I won’t bang on about them again here, except to say that I still love them.
The nude shoes are Kate Appleby for Knightsbridge.
The necklace is also from Carraig Donn. I live in a small town with a large Carraig Donn; I love going for a little wander around in there. I very rarely leave empty handed.
Are you wearing paler colours yet? What’s your favourite pastel?
We are being teased with hints of warmer weather, one day its lovely and sunny, the next it’s stormy and miserable. It looks promising for tomorrow but I’m not relying on the weather for a bit of sunshine, I’m creating my own by wearing bright orange. With Mother’s Day this weekend, an outfit like this could be good for Sunday lunch. It could also work for St. Patrick’s Day if you don’t want to wear the usual paddywackery.
I love how bright and summery this long-line, waterfall style orange blazer from Dunnes makes me feel. The material of this is a heavy-ish crepe material, it’ll be ideal for cooler summer nights, but it’s not too light to wear now if you are not going to be outside for too long. I first showed you this blazer with trousers in this post but today I felt like pairing it with this skirt.
The top is from New Look. It’s a bit more than a basic black t-shirt; it’s crepe material with a slight ruffle sleeve.
The skirt is also from New Look. I’m sure you know by now that I love blue and orange together and think the colours look great in the Aztec pattern of this skirt. If you are afraid of being swamped by the long blazer, you can see this skirt with a fitted top in this post.
The boots are my slouchy, faux suede boots from Penneys. I love how these boots can work with dressy or casual outfits.
The necklace is from Carriag Donn. I thought the neckline of the plain top needed a little something and blue ties in with the skirt.
Are you using colour to create your own sunshine?
Would it be terribly auld wan of me to say I can’t believe its “Friday Style” time again? The weeks are flying by; it’ll be Christmas before you know it. Right, with that little rant over, let’s move on to today’s outfit. I don’t often wear head to toe black because it can be a bit harsh on my pale Irish skin tone, navy would be more forgiving. Also black can be a bit boring, I like colour but I do appreciate how chic and versatile black can be. A change of shoes and accessories is all that is needed to take a black blouse and black skinny jeans from work, to meeting friends for lunch, to a night on the tiles. Let’s not forget the obvious, it’s slimming.
This top is another great find from Penneys. I think this looks way more expensive than Penneys and I even think the material has a lux feel to it. The cream piping is a nice bit of interesting detail adding to the lux feel of it but it also draws the eyes in a vertical direction adding to the slimming effect. This is a gorgeous blouse that could be worn so many ways.
The jeans are my old faithful super soft skinnies from Dorothy Perkins.
The boots are also from Penneys. They are faux suede, slouchy knee high boots. Unfortunately they are few years old and I love them so much that I have a second pair stashed in the back of my wardrobe waiting to replace these if they ever fall apart; I had to have a back up. Keep an eye out because I think Penneys had the same ones again a few months back.
The necklace is from Carraig Donn. It’s been all about large statement necklaces that sit at the collar bone for a long time now but a long pendent can be really glam too. This one is a lovely rose gold with pearls and a filigree heart. I think it’s gorgeous.
Are you a regular wearer of head to toe black, or do you prefer to mix it up?
Just because I’m wearing blue doesn’t mean I’m feeling blue. All in all it’s been a pretty good week. We had pancakes on Tuesday, the temperature is sneaking up, we were in double digits on Wednesday and the evenings are getting longer. However, I have given up all sweet stuff and junk for lent. So far I am fine because I am used to being good during the week but I always over indulge in sweets over the weekend so we will see how I get on. It’s not a religious thing or even an attempt to empathise with the less fortunate. It’s merely a personal challenge and a chance to hopefully break some bad habits. I am also going to try and not buy clothes for lent. This may be a sacrifice too far but I am hoping to use the time I usually waste wandering around the shops to actually get the things done that I have been meaning to do for ages. Don’t worry there is loads in my wardrobe to keep the blog going and clearing out my wardrobe is one of those things that I have been meaning to do for ages. On to today’s outfit:
I’ve had this blazer for ages and it’s from Mango. Now that spring is on the horizon it’ll soon be warm enough to leave the house with a blazer instead of the winter coat. The bright blue colour really lifts an outfit.
The style of this top, with the wrap over and tucked in effect at the front and longer length at the back, is something that River Island have been doing for a while now but lately I have been seeing the same style tops in other high street stores, even Penneys. That’s right, it’s from Penneys. Apparently it comes in a few colours but this navy one was the only colour in my local store but that’s ok because navy is a great base colour that you can match so much with. It’s a classy style that can be dressed up or down and you can see my printed River Island top, of the same style, dressed up with a skirt in this post. This navy top would look great with a printed skirt.
The jeans are from River Island. I love dressing up distressed jeans with a pretty top, heels and a blazer. It’s a relaxed but stylish look that I really like.
The shoes are from Dune. They are beautiful but very high.
The necklace is from Carraig Donn. It’s a gorgeous chunky sparkler that adds a bit of glam to any outfit.
What are you looking forward to wearing as the temperatures increase? Did you give anything up for lent?
Love it or hate it, it’s that time of the year again, Valentine’s Day. I’m a bit of a girly girl so I love the chance to get dressed up in pink (red isn’t a great colour for me). Today I am showing you three outfits to give you some inspiration if you are heading out on Saturday Night.
First up is an outfit I showed you a while back. It doesn’t get much pinker than this hot pink, bodycon Vesper Dress, Vero Moda necklace and New Look Shoes.
The next outfit is from this recent post. It’s a more subtle outfit but still quite feminine and romantic. The top and skirt are both from River Island and the shoes are New Look.
Last we have an outfit that I haven’t shown you yet. This is a lot less girlie than the other two and perfect if you don’t want to be too dressed up but still want to channel a bit of romance.
This berry pink top is from Oasis. It is plain at the front but has some cute pleating details at the back.
The faux leather biker jacket is from New Look and I have had it for ages, so a good investment considering its still in style. You can get similar ones to this in many high street shops now.
The trousers are from Dorothy Perkins. Another outfit option would be to wear leather look trousers or leggings with a blazer, keeping it edgy by swapping where you wear the leather (double leather could look a little 80’s glam rock).
The shoes are from River Island, any excuse to wear them. I told you it’s all about the printed shoes.
The necklace is from Carraig Donn. I love the rose gold colour of it and the filigree heart is very pretty.
What are you planning on wearing this Valentine’s Day?
Did you ever just really like what you are wearing, so much so that you feel amazing? That was me last Saturday night. My birthday was Tuesday but I always prefer to celebrate these things on the weekends when you can go out and enjoy yourself without thinking about having to get up for work in the morning. We headed out for dinner and a few drinks and I got glammed up for the occasion.
This top is just beautiful. I love the delicate watercolour style print. The colours are just so pretty. The loose flowy shape is flattering and comfortable. It has that draped, longer at the back thing going on so it will also look great with some skinny jeans. I love everything about it and it is from River Island. I am having a bit of a love affair with River Island at the moment. I just keep wanting to buy everything.
The skirt is also from River Island. As you can see it’s a faux leather pencil skirt in burgundy. You may recognise it from this post. I have worn this a few times now with different tops and I still have a few more ideas for it. I feel so classy and elegant in this skirt. When I first bought it I wasn’t sure I would get much wear out of it but now I am thinking this is going to be long lasting staple in my wardrobe that I will wear year after year.
The necklace is from Carraig Donn and I think the colour works perfectly with the print of the top. Also, as much as I love a chunky statement necklace, I think a pendant necklace works better with an open blouse style neckline.
The shoes are from New Look. I know I wear them a lot but they are really comfortable and I need to be able to comfortably walk in my shoes when I wear a pencil skirt. As much as I love the skirt there is little to no give in it for leg movement when walking. Let’s just say I can’t exactly titter or wiggle delicately so slipping around in my shoes would get me nowhere.
Are you sharing my love for River Island?
You are probably wondering what I’m at. Only a few weeks ago I told you to be a bit more creative with your Christmas party outfit instead of buying the usual little black sparkly dress and now here I am with a post about a black dress with a bit of sparkly bling. Well I am actually proving my point. I fell in love with this dress last year and had to buy it. However, the only occasion that I felt it was appropriate for was New Year’s Eve. So this beautiful dress has sat in my wardrobe from that night till now. I figure a Christmas night out is the only other time it’s going to be appropriate. My office isn’t having a Christmas party but I am heading out for dinner and drinks with my husband this weekend to celebrate our 5th Wedding Anniversary, so this dress will finally get another outing.
The dress is by the brand Jaime La Vie and I bought it in Carraig Donn. It’s the details of this dress that make it stand out from other black dresses for me. I love the chunky jewelled neckline, which means less times wasted faffing around looking for the perfect necklace. I also like the panel down the middle with an embossed print. It adds a bit of interest and a lux effect. It’s also the perfect lady like length so that I can wear either bare legs or opaque tights. I always feel the need to wear opaque tights with shorter lengths.
Since I don’t have full on glitter ball shoes, my second choice is these green snake print shoes from Enzo Angiolini. I like these shoes along with the coincidentally matching Michael Kors clutch with black. I think they add a nice pop of colour to a black dress.
Are you rescuing any forgotten sparkly black dresses from the back of the wardrobe this weekend?
