Today’s post is just a quick face of the day post but before I get on to that I just want to let you all know that I am cutting back on blogging for the summer. I have been blogging for about two and a half years now and I really enjoy it but it is time consuming. What I enjoy most is the interaction with like minded people on my blog as well as on twitter and through reading and commenting on other blogs. I really enjoy the comments and replies and getting and giving feedback. It’s nice to know that I’m not nuts and that there are loads of other people out there who are as mad about all thing beauty and fashion as me. Unfortunately there are so many things I want to do with my evenings and weekends that I am finding it hard to keep up with regular posts. But since I love it so much I plan on doing simpler outfit of the day, face of the day kind of picture posts on twitter (@Ahsuretislovely) and Instagram (@ahsuretislovely). I haven’t been using Instagram before now but that will all change now as I think it will perfect for posting pics with the list of products or clothes. If I come across a product that needs a proper review then I will indeed do a full post and it’s more than likely that when the summer is over and the evenings are long and dark, I will be back blogging regularly.
So here is today’s face of the day:
MAC Prolongwear Foundation
Clarins Instant Concealer
MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural
Isadora Face Sculptor Palette
MAC Omega Eye shadow: Brows
Max Factor Excess Shimmer in Bronze as a base
MAC Mineralise Eye shadow Summer Haze
Maybelline Big Eyes Palette in Brown
Clarins Gold Eye Pencil: waterline
Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara
MAC Soar Lip Liner
MAC Brave Lipstick
Why does it always looks like such a long list when you think you have done a basic and simple look?
Of course I was like a giddy five year old when these little pots of shimmering gorgeousness arrived. The season for packing on the sparkle will soon be upon us. Even though the name Excess Shimmer Eye Shadows suggests disco ball glitter, don’t be afraid. They are not packed with enough glitter to send you little niece into hysterics, they are far more sophisticated. They have a metallic finish with enough shine to look glamorous but not ridiculous. Like puppies, they are not just for Christmas.
There are six shades in the range: (L-R) Crystal, Pearl, Pink Opal, Copper, Bronze, and Onyx
I gave you a quick glimpse of the shade Copper last week. At first glance I thought this would be my favourite but how wrong was I. I didn’t think I would like Onyx at all because I think black eye products tend to look too harsh on me but Onyx is more of a gun metal grey on my lids and I love it.
Max Factor Excess Shimmer Eye Shadows are a gel formula that is really creamy. They can be applied sheer enough or built up to a very opaque punch of colour. The best bit is that they are long lasting, even on my oily lids but if I was heading out for a night I would still use a primer for extra insurance. Pubs and clubs can be sweltering when they are packed with people over the festive party period. They can be used to create so many looks. The obvious being just using them on their own all over the lid but you could also use them both under and over other shadows for many creative and unique looks. Applying a powder over a cream base can really up the impact of the powder shadow. Both Onyx and Bronze would make great bases for smoky eye looks or you could use them as liquid liners. Using the lighter Excess Shimmer Shadows layered over darker shadows can create some unique colours.
So here they are on my lids (Top to bottom): Crystal, Pearl, Pink Opal, Copper, Bronze, and Onyx
The retail price on these is €7.99 which I think is really good value considering all the different ways you can use them. Have you tried any of these yet? Which colour is your favourite?
It’s been a very busy weekend but I couldn’t wait to try out some of the lovely Max Factor eye products that arrived last Friday. I have six Max Factor Excess Shimmer Eye Shadows and Three Excess Intensity Longwear Eyeliners and I will have a full review of them soon but for now I will just tease you with a glimpse of one of the shadows and one of the liners together in the look below. These two were the ones caught my eye immediately at first glance and I couldn’t wait to try them together. Having swatched all of the products now I can tell you that they are all equally gorgeous but I’ll tell you more when I’ve had the chance to try them all out properly. So on to the look below.
I used the Excess Shimmer Eye Shadow in copper all over the lid and crease. Then I lined my eyes lightly with the Excess Intensity Longwear Eyeliner in Excessive Violet. To finish I applied a coat of Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara. The result is a bright daytime look that makes the eyes look put together and awake. Even though the shadow is shimmery it doesn’t look like a disco ball or too over the top for daytime.
I am looking forward to playing around more with the shadow and layering if over some of the darker colours in the range for a different look. The liner can also be made to look more dramatic by going heavier with it. I will try to get my review of the shadows and liners up soon.
