I am facing into the impossible task of trying to choose what products to bring with me on holidays to Portugal. I’m not a hand luggage only kinda gal and since I am going for ten days, I’ll need adequate supplies. We are staying in a five star (save your “ooh, no recession round here” because we got a good deal on when we booked way back in January) so I expect the toiletries in the room will be decent but I still prefer to have my products with me. You never know how you might react to something when you factor in the extra heat of a sun holiday. So what’s making the cut?

Facial Skincare:

??????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????

Cleanser: La Roche Posey Physiological Foam Water, I reviewed the gel version of this here, I liked it so much I went to repurchase it but was tempted to try the foaming version for a change.
Serum & Moisturiser: L’Oreal Skin Perfection, I’ve only started using these so I will do a full review when I’ve given them a full trial, but initial impressions are very good.
Eye Cream: Sample size of Vichy LiftActiv Serum 10 Eyes & Lashes

Hair and Body:

Body Wash: Dove Purely Pampering Shea Butter with Warm Vanilla
Shampoo and Conditioner Sheer Blonde Highlight Activating Moisturising range
Deodorant: Dove Invisible Dry Compressed

Sun Screens: Piz Buin Tan Accelerator, SPF 15 & 6, believe it or not I can tan

Obviously I wouldn’t go to a warm country without adequate primers:

MAC Prep & Prime for under foundation
MAC Prep & Prime BB Cream for occasional day use instead of foundation
MAC Paint Pot in Painterly for eyelid primer

The old reliables for a perfect base:

Foundation: Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24 Hour
Colour Corrector: Bobbi Brown – under eyes
Concealer: MAC Pro Longwear
Finishing Powder: MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural Light
Contour: MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural Medium Deep

Now the fun stuff, eyes:

MAC Mineralise Eyeshadows in Fireside, Twilight Falls, and Summer Haze
MAC Eyeshadows in Omega (for Brows) Satin Taupe, All That Glitters, and Nylon (to use as a highlighter)

Liners: Rimmel Scandaleyes in Bronze & Smashbox Limitless Eyeliner in Black Violet
Mascara: Lancôme Hypnose Drama

Blush & Lips:

MAC Powder Blush in Peaches (my all-time favourite)
Dior Addict in Jet Set
Clarins Joli Rouge in Sweet Plum

I know it seems like a lot but I am sure I am forgetting something (I might leave out some of the eyeshadows). Any other suggestions, anything important that I am leaving out?

Yea that title is a total oxymoron. On Saturday I went along on my future niece –in-law’s hen party with a gang of girls in their early 20s. It wasn’t too bad as my older sisters (one of whom is mother of the groom) as well as the mother of the bride were there so the oldies were only slightly outnumbered.

The plan was to go to Carrick-on-Shannon for some fun activities, such as sumo wrestling, obstacle course, Velcro wall and a bucking rodeo bull thing along with some other bits and pieces and then a night out with dinner and drinks. With the wedding less than two weeks away I’m afraid Arnica has become my new best friend but it was some craic and we nearly busted our sides laughing. Anyway, wearing a tracksuit on my chunky butt in front of a bunch of young wans is bad enough, there was no way I was going without some makeup. Obviously this is one of those situations where a fully face of slap isn’t really appropriate so I needed to be careful to make it look like I wasn’t wearing any but still look like I am actually naturally fabulous.  So here is what was on my face:

MAC Prep & Prime BB Cream (review here)

MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural

Clinique Blushwear Creamstick in Peachy Blush (review here)

Unfortunately the schedule got off track so there was very little time to shower and get properly glammed up for dinner and drinks. There was a mad dash to literally slap on some slap. For the night out this is how I did my makeup:

Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24h foundation
Bobbi Brown colour corrector
MAC Pro Long wear Concealer
MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural Light as finishing powder
MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Dark for contouring
MAC Blush in Peaches

MAC Mineralise eye shadow in Fireside – crease
MAC All that Glitters- lid
Smashbox Limitless Eye Liner Black Violet
Loreal Virtuose Mascara

The finished look:

Bourjois Contour Clubbing Waterproof Eyeliner in Purple Night: Review & Look Tutorial

On a recent trip to Boots I picked up this Bourjois Contour Clubbing Waterproof Eyeliner in Purple Night (€6.59) as part of a 3 for 2 deal. (Boots 3 for 2 is like a beauty bloggers Bermuda Triangle; where many a woman gets lost for hours.) I had been on the lookout for it after reading a few reviews especially this Lovely Girlie Bits one, and since I am quite partial to purple eye makeup, there was no hesitation when I spotted it.

I agree with Karen in loving the packaging. Purple with metallic teal are a fabulous colour combination. As for the liner itself: it’s lovely to use. It’s very pigmented and glides on easily without tugging or dragging the skin, and it is very creamy and smooth. There is a hint of metallic teal shimmer shot trough the purple liner for added interest, which really makes green eyes pop.

I wore Purple Night out Saturday night and here is how I used it.

First we have a picture of Purple Night lightly lining my water and tight line

Then I blended it outside the upper and lower lash lines

Next I blended MAC Fireside into the crease

Then I covered the lid with MAC Satin Taupe

A little highlight in the inner corner and some mascara and I’m good to go. Now I could have went a bit heavier with the liner for a more dramatic look, but I choose to keep it a more subtle and soft smokey look for this time.

MAC Fireside: Review & Pics

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMAC Fireside Mineralise eyeshadow is from the Après Chic limited edition collection, which is a recent release. There are five mineralise eyeshadows in this collection but Fireside is the one that caught my eye and really it’s the only one in the collection that tempted me. At €21.50 it’s not cheap but it is good value as you are getting a really diverse colour that will last ages.

It is so rich in colour. It has tones of purple and plum as well as red and brown, all with a little twist of teal running through it. That’s what I love about MAC mineralise eyeshadows, there’s always so much going on, however it makes them hard to describe and capture on camera. The warm rich tones of Fireside are a perfect combination of all the colours that emphasize green eyes, which is why I love it so much. In fact I wore it out twice over the weekend and I more or less used it all on its own both times.

All I used in this look is Fireside, a little high light in the inner corner, liner and mascara, job done. Quick and easy but looks like there was more work put in. You can use it wet or dry and create a great smokey eye with this or just use it to contour the crease. Have you checked out any of the Après Chic collection yet?
