You are probably wondering what I’m at. Only a few weeks ago I told you to be a bit more creative with your Christmas party outfit instead of buying the usual little black sparkly dress and now here I am with a post about a black dress with a bit of sparkly bling. Well I am actually proving my point. I fell in love with this dress last year and had to buy it. However, the only occasion that I felt it was appropriate for was New Year’s Eve. So this beautiful dress has sat in my wardrobe from that night till now. I figure a Christmas night out is the only other time it’s going to be appropriate. My office isn’t having a Christmas party but I am heading out for dinner and drinks with my husband this weekend to celebrate our 5th Wedding Anniversary, so this dress will finally get another outing.
The dress is by the brand Jaime La Vie and I bought it in Carraig Donn. It’s the details of this dress that make it stand out from other black dresses for me. I love the chunky jewelled neckline, which means less times wasted faffing around looking for the perfect necklace. I also like the panel down the middle with an embossed print. It adds a bit of interest and a lux effect. It’s also the perfect lady like length so that I can wear either bare legs or opaque tights. I always feel the need to wear opaque tights with shorter lengths.
Since I don’t have full on glitter ball shoes, my second choice is these green snake print shoes from Enzo Angiolini. I like these shoes along with the coincidentally matching Michael Kors clutch with black. I think they add a nice pop of colour to a black dress.
Are you rescuing any forgotten sparkly black dresses from the back of the wardrobe this weekend?
Today I am showing you another Jaime La Vie dress from Carraig Donn. This is another brand, whose dresses I am very fond of and I can usually pick up any of their dresses in my size and feel confident that it will fit perfectly.
The main reason I bought this dress is that I love the colours and style. Colour blocking almost always looks classy and I love orange and navy together. Let’s not forget the gold zips, we all know I love gold zips as a stand out detail on a garment. The panelling style is very flattering, which is always a plus. The other great thing about this dress is that it is really versatile. I have styled it here for a night out with heels, clutch and a statement necklace. It could easily be worn to work with simpler jewellery, a blazer and you could even put a blouse underneath to be extra professional.
I also plan on wearing this dress out to Sunday lunch with the family by wearing it with my nude wedge heel courts from Oasis and this neutral toned Guess bag.
My nude courts are Knightsbridge by Kate Appleby. These are really comfortable and comfortable nude courts, that you can actually walk in, should be a staple in every woman’s wardrobe.
I bought this necklace while on holiday in Portugal. I love picking up jewellery and accessories on holiday because it’s very unlikely that you will see it on anyone else when you get home.
The bag is a cross body bag from Penneys but I don’t really like cross body bags so I shortened the strap to use it as a clutch.
I might as well start this post with a favourite old cliché of mine, I can’t believe it’s Friday again, the weeks are flying. Today I have a slightly unusual print to show you. The thing is that I am not a big fan of just any old floral print. For me to pick up something with a floral print I have to really like something about it especially all the colours. Since yellow and red are two colours that I feel don’t look great on me I tend to shy away from anything with those colours, so even if there is only small bit of yellow or red in a floral print, it can put me off, fussy I know. In case you haven’t noticed floral prints are everywhere this summer.
This dress has a mash up of two prints so we have the floral with a barcode type print over it. I was immediately drawn to it because it is so unusual and different to anything else I have seen in other shops. This dress is from the brand Jaime La Vie, which is only sold in Carraig Donn. Body con can, more often than not, be a bit unforgiving but with the placement of the panels on this dress it is actually quite flattering. As you can see the print is in a panel in the middle so it is black at the sides but then it has the stripped triangle shaped panels at the sides pointing at a black band across the waist which really gives the illusion of a nipped in waist and narrow hips. There is also some print on the back, which I love. I hate when a dress has some lovely detail on the front but the back is just plain like a completely different dress.
Since the print is busy I kept the accessories to a minimum. This necklace is also from Jaime La Vie at Carraig Donn.
There is a bit of orange in the print so I decided to wear it with these orange shoes from Kurt Keiger. I love these shoes and they always draw so many compliments. You would be surprised by the amount of things you can wear orange shoes with, they really lift an outfit.
This clutch is old and it’s from Dunnes but envelope clutches are another trend that seems to be everywhere this summer.
How do you feel about floral prints? Do you love them all or are you fussy like me?
I assume many people are like me in respect of how they go through phases with accessories. I find myself reaching for the same bits and pieces over and over again over a period of time and then it all changes and I start reaching for a new set of accessories. Accessory trends are tied in with clothing trends and change from season to season. I figured it was time I showed you what’s getting my love at the moment because I’m off on holidays and I do love to pick up some bits and pieces in markets, stalls and local shops while I’m away. As much as I love a bargain in Penneys, there is something so satisfying about buying something and knowing no one at home will have it.
So here is a look at the accessories that I am loving at the moment:
You have seen this necklace in a few posts already. I bought it in Penneys. Turquoise is always classy and this piece really adds a lovely pop of colour to so many outfits.
I actually picked both of these scarves up in a bric-a-brac value shop. With the warm and humid weather I usually wear these loosely with a t-shirt, blazer and jeans when heading out in the evening.
This is my new favourite belt. You may be seeing a lot of this because the pale pink is girly and the studs give it a bit of edge. Because it’s nude it goes with everything and I love the little turn lock buckle.
There was a post on beaut.ie recently that said big wrist jewellery and cuffs were going to be a big trend so I dug out this little beauty. My older sister gave it to me years ago when she finished with the glam rock phase.
Dangling chandelier earrings have been another big trend for summer and I have been wearing these ones from New Look.
Another green necklace, but this one is a little bit daintier and far more subtle than some of my others. It’s Jaime La Vie from Carraig Donn.
This knuckle duster is also from Awear. I just like that it is eye catching and pretty.
What accessories are getting your love at the moment?
