EYE LOOK WITH SLEEK VINTAGE ROMANCE PALETTE

I gave you my review of the Sleek Vintage Romance palette last week but I didn’t have any decent pictures of eye looks using this palette. I had been using it loads when heading out over the Christmas but as per usual I was always running late so I didn’t have the time to be taking pictures all over the house in search of lighting that would show up the colours of the shadows accurately. So here is a look I did over the weekend.

I started by using the Kiko Long Lasting Stick in Rose Brown all over the lid and crease as a primer. This works as a great base to hold powder eye shadows in place and it adds depth to the colour.
I also used it to line the bottom lashes.

I applied 1 (Forever in Florence) all over the lid and crease.

Then I blended 2 (Bliss in Barcelona) from the outer corner into the crease.

Next, a dab of 3 (Pretty in Paris) in the inner corner and outer brow bone for a highlight.

I lined my upper eye lids and bottom lashes with 2 (Bliss in Barcelona) and then went over the lines with the Kiko Glamorous Eye Pencil in Plum. I think using powder eye shadow either over or under a pencil liner helps keep it in place longer. I use the powder under the pencil if I want a sharp clean line and I use the powder over the pencil if I want to soften the liner for a smoky look.

Finally I lashed on Lancôme Grandiose Mascara.

I love the purple and plum shades is this palette. Have you tried any of the Sleek palettes yet?

FESTIVE AND SPARKLY GOLD EYE LOOK

Christmas party season is in full swing and what better time to pack on the sparkle. Today’s eye look is gold and bit sparkly but sparkly in a grown up way. I don’t think it’s too over the top and it’s a look anyone can wear without looking like a disco ball. Gold eye shadow is a colour that suites all eye colours and will make the colour of your eyes really stand out.

First I used Kiko Golden Beige as a primer base all over lid and crease
Then I packed Fil D’Or all over the lid and into the crease, I also wet the tip of a MAC 219 brush and dipped it into the corner of the Fil D’ Or and lined my waterline with it.
Next I blended the dark gold from the MAC Glimmer of Gold quad into the crease
I then dipped the cleaned MAC 219 brush into MAC Gilt by Association and applied it to the crease and outer corner. I also lined my upper and lower lash lines with it.
I used the lightest shade in the MAC quad for an inner corner and under brow highlight.
Finally, I finished it all off with Benefit They’re Real Mascara.

I have kept this look soft by using the Gilt by Association to line my eyes. You could up the glamour factor with some false lashes and lining the top lashes with a liquid liner. You could also use a pencil on the lower lash line for more intense definition.

What’s your go to Christmas party eye look? Do you wear gold eye shadow?

LANCOME GRANDIOSE MASCARA: REVIEW AND PICTURES

I know I have been teasing you about this mascara for a while now so today I am finally giving my full review along with some before and after pictures. I picked this up in duty free about eight weeks ago now and I’ve been showing glimpses of it here and there in some other posts but today it gets a post all its own. I should preface this post with a mention of the fact that I do have a soft spot for Lancôme mascaras and so you should keep in mind that I was never going to look for negatives when trying Grandiose. I don’t know what it is about Lancôme mascaras but the formula and the brush always seems to be perfect for me. What I want in mascara is both volume and length without clumps. I usually prefer sample sizes as the shorter wand gets my hands closer to where they need to be making me feel like I have more control.

Lancome Grandiose Mascara
There has been a load of hype around Lancôme Grandiose mascara since it first launched and I managed to wait patiently for the hype to die to down and for duty free before purchasing. I was not disappointed. I find the swan neck really great; it’s easy to control and get into the corners with it. It also makes it easier to use your right hand to do the left eye which is something I often find awkward. If I am being totally honest, I thought the formula was a bit wet the first few times I used it but after a few uses it settled so now it’s just right. Grandiose gives me both volume and length, which makes me very happy. You can do a quick sweep through to keep it subtle for day time or do a sweep, wiggle, and sweep for full on night time flutter glamour. Its proper priest socks black and there is no smudging or fallout. What can I say, I love it. Here are the before and after pictures:

TOP TEN TAG: TEN OF MY FAVOURITES

I was tagged to do this top ten post by everyday unicorn. I had mixed feelings about it because I love seeing other bloggers’ top picks but I find it hard to pick favourites. With so many products to try and new ones hitting the shelves every day, I tend to have a new favourite until something better comes along and then that becomes my new favourite. There are however a few products that I keep repurchasing either because I think they are the best products for me or because I have some sentimental affection for them. So here they are:
Foundation:

Lancome
I loved MAC Studio Fix for ages until there was a load of hype when Lancôme released Teint Idole Ultra 24 Hour and I had to try it. It was instant love. Teint Idole Ultra is bullet proof, its lasts and lasts. It works well for my combo oily skin. It keeps my skin looking naturally matte without being cakey or heavy.
Concealer:

NARS Creamy Radian Concealer
Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer is my pick here. I am still on my first tube of this but I know I will be repurchasing this over and over. It conceals the dark lines under my eyes and brightens the area. It lasts all day without getting creepy and settling in my fine lines. It’s pricey but a little goes a long way so a tube will last a long time.
Powder:

MAC MSFN
This is a no brainer, MAC Mineralise Skin Finish Natural. I have this in light for everyday and in medium for when I am wearing tan. I have repurchased this so many times. I use it mostly as a finishing or setting powder to keep foundation in place and stop oily shine. It can also be used on its own as a mineral powder foundation.
Blush:

MAC Peaches
I have a strong affection for MAC Peaches. It was my first MAC blush and it was the first blush that I tried that made me instantly feel prettier. It’s just perfect for my colouring; it really brightens and lifts my complexion. MAC powder blushes are great quality and they last all day without needing touch-ups.
Bronzer:

MAC MSFN MD
Again it’s MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural but this time it’s the shade medium deep. There is no shimmer so it’s perfect for contouring and it can also be used as an all over bronzer if I get a spray tan.
Highlighter:

MAC Phloof
This is a tough one. I use highlighter in a C shape from under my outer brow bone to the top of the outer cheek bone everyday but I generally just use a light shade pearlescent eye shadow. MAC Phloof tends to be the one I use most often.
Mascara:

Lancome Grandiose Mascara
This is a new favourite but I have always been a fan of Lancôme mascaras so it no surprise that the new Lancôme Grandiose is becoming a firm favourite.
Eyeshadow:

MAC Satin Taupe
If I had to pick a favourite eyeshadow it would be MAC Satin Taupe. It’s a brilliant shade that can be used in so many looks but is also great all on its own. A sheer sweep across the lid is perfect for day time but you can also pack it on for a glam night look.
Brows:

MAC Omega
I always fill my brows in with MAC Omega eyeshadow. It’s the perfect ash tone for me and I think a powder shadow looks more natural on me than liquid or pencil formulas.
Lip Products:

Clinique Chubby Stick
Clinique Chubby Stick in Curvy Candy is my go to lip product of choice. I love the colour, its perfect for day and night. The Chubby Stick formula is quick and easy to apply or reapply and they are nice and hydrating on the lips.
So there you have it, I know it’s MAC heavy and all premium brands but I like to apply makeup in the morning and not have to do any touch-ups throughout the day. For some reason my handbag is heavy enough so I don’t want to add extra weight with a makeup bag in there as well; the only makeup in my handbag is the Chubby Stick and a Max Factor Colour Elixir gloss  ( I would say second favourite lip product).

What are your favourites? Do we share any of the same ones?

EYE LOOK: VIOLET EYELINER

A couple of weeks back I spotted something on the X-Factor, Cheryl wearing violet eye shadow as eyeliner on her bottom lash line, a look she obviously stole from me in this post and this one, I used to do this look a lot but I haven’t done it in ages. I had forgotten about it so here is again with a bit of a fresh update. I decided to add a little pop of orange in here because I love gold and orange tones on my green eyes and purple and orange look great together.

MAC Hepcat – outer corner
MAC Summer Haze – just the orange shade in inner corner and under bottom line

Actually Cheryl’s eye makeup has been great this season, are there any other looks that you liked?

I’M BACK! DUTY FREE HAUL

WP_20140903_023[1]

After two weeks off work, 10 days of which I spent in sunny Portugal, am I refreshed and raring to go? No, actually I could do with a holiday to get over my holiday. Lying in the sun, working on my tan all day is hard work, I had to flip over every half hour to keep it even, I was like a rotisserie chicken. Luckily I had a few days when I got back before returning to work but they were spent working in my garden. I’m trying to become a proper adult home owner and take pride in my garden, yes I know I am getting old; the signs are glaring. I had intended to post this on Monday because I wanted my first post back to be about the products I picked up in duty free, however, I was way too tired to do it so the blog stayed on holiday for a few extra days. Never fear, I’m back to normal now and you can expect a post every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the foreseeable future.
So I’ll stop babbling on and show you the goods:

MAC Glimmer of Gold

MAC Glimmer of Gold
First up is my new favourite thing, MAC Mineralise Eye Shadow Quad in A Glimmer of Gold. I hope you like it because you may be seeing it a lot as this is all that I have been putting on my eyes since I got it. I will do a proper post on this with loads of pictures of these shadows on my eyes soon.

MAC Gilt by Association

Another MAC Mineralise Eye Shadow is Gilt by Association. This has a matte finish, so it’s totally different from all my other MAC Mineralise Eye Shadows, which all have a satin finish, not that it needed any justification. This is lovely and of course I will give you a closer look soon.

Lancome Grandiose Mascara
Next is the Lancôme Grandiose Mascara. I have wanted this since it first went on sale here and I didn’t think I would be able to hold out till my holidays to get it, but I did and it doesn’t disappoint.

Este Lauder Double Wear Light
Last but not least is Estee Lauder Double Wear Light. I have been devoted to Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24 Hour for a long time now and Double Wear Light was on my list to try for ages so I finally gave in a decided to embrace change and give it a go. I like it and will do a full review of it but I haven’t decided if I prefer it to the Lancôme, I need more time to make up my mind.
So there you have them, I didn’t buy too much but instead went for a few select quality products. I am really happy with everything I got. What’s on you duty free wish list?

SOFT AND EASY DAYTIME FACE OF THE DAY

b4ade037-b796-4277-b7ab-e0751c3036ec_jpeg

Today’s look is just a soft face of the day that is easy. These type looks make me feel like I am polished and put together without being over the top. No fear of “where does your wan think she is going with all that slap”. Most days I don’t really bother with doing my eyes or lips but instead reserve the full face of makeup for nights out, but now and again at the weekends when I have a bit more time I like to do soft look on  my eyes and maybe wear a tinted lip balm or gloss. Sounds like I am low maintenance, but we all know the truth.
To start I did a bit of prep work to create the illusion of a flawless base.

WP_20140706_013
I used:
Max Factor CC Colour Corrector Pencil in green on some redness at the sides of my nose and on my chin
I also use the yellow CC pencil on the dark circles under my eyes and then applied some NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer over the areas where I used the Colour Corrector Pencils.

WP_20140706_012

On my face:
I used a sample I had of Lancôme  Miracle Air De Teint foundation in 010.
I set my foundation with MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural in light. I use the Mineralise Skinfinish Natural in Medium Deep to contour my cheeks and then used MAC Fleur Power Powder Blush.

WP_20140706_014

For my eyes:
I always use MAC Omega to fill in my brows.
I used Max Factor in Feral Brown in the outer corners and blended it in to the crease
Then I applied Max Factor Auburn Envy on the lids
I then lined my eyes with Feral Brown and applied Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara to my lashes.

WP_20140706_015

To finish I lined my lips with MAC Subculture and loaded on some Max Factor Colour Elixir gloss in Enchanting Coral.
