It feels like it’s been a long time since I did a face of the day post and since I’ve made some changes in the products I use regularly I figured now is a good time to do an update. Since I’m doing this the day after a night out, I am trying to reduce the appearance of blotchiness and discolouration without packing on loads of slap. Here are the products used:
Max Factor Colour Correctors, yellow for under the eyes and green for redness on the tops of my cheeks and sides of my nose.
Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluid Foundation
Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer
MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural, setting powder
Isa Dora Face Sculptor in Warm Peach, contour, blush and highlight
MAC Omega eye shadow to fill in brows
Kiko Long Lasting Shadow Stick in Taupe as eye lid primer
Smashbox Full Exposure Palette (1. crease, 2. lid, 3. outer corner, 4 over liner and 5. inner corner)
Kiko Sport Proof Liner in Taupe
Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara
Max Factor Colour Elixir Gloss in Luxurious Berry
Do you use any of these products?
This is my first time purchasing from any of the beauty box subscriptions services. I love the idea behind them but I’ve heard such mixed reviews that I never felt they were worth the money. They all seem to start off great but then as the months go on the products seem to get less and less interesting. However, when a few people tweeted the link to preregister to buy the Harvey Nichols Glossybox, I had to check it out; I mean its Harvey Nichols. I didn’t realise that I could just purchase the one box, I had always thought you had to sign up to a subscription of a few months. So I will definitely be keeping an eye out for special edition boxes in the future. I didn’t want to do too much research on this box because I wanted to be surprised and since its Harvey Nichols I figured all the products would be quality. One quick glimpse at the picture on their web site and I saw the bands Laura Mercier and NARS and I was sold.
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Here is a rundown of what’s in the box:
Laura Mercier Foundation Primer – I was really excited about this because I have recently purchased the Smooth-Finish Flawless Fluid foundation. I have used this primer with the foundation twice now and they are great together so this may get a full review. It’s a decent 30ml size; the full size is 50ml.
Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream – I have always wanted to try Elemis products but they are so expensive. Hopefully I don’t fall in love with this because the 50ml size is about €100 but I am certainly going to enjoy the luxury of using my 15ml sample.
Dermalogica Overnight Repair Serum – ok so the bottle inside the box is actually tiny but you only use a few drops at night time so a little should go a long way. I’ve liked every Dermalogica product that I’ve tried so I have high hopes for this.
Rodial Bee Venom Moisturiser – another expensive brand that I haven’t really tried anything from before so this should be interesting.
Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real Mascara – I’ve been meaning to try this for ages because I really like Bad Gal Mascara.
Macadamia Natural Oil Healing Oil Treatment – I do love a good hair treatment so I can’t wait to try this.
OPI Avoplex Moisture Replenishing Lotion – this is a massive 120ml bottle so I am really excited about this.
NARS Satin Lip Pencil – of course I had to put this on as soon as I opened it and I love it. I have a funny feeling I will be getting some more of these, but this colour is lovely. This is definitely getting its own post.
La Coupe Coconut and Macadamia Oil – another hair treatment so my hair should be looking fabulous for Christmas nights out.
Show Beauty Lux Volume Mist – I can’t wait to try this, I hope it gives me massive hair and the bottle is a full size 150ml.
And Finally the Harvey Nichols Mini Scented Candle – the scent of this is gorgeous.
I have to say I am really impressed with the contents of this box and it was definitely worth the price which converts to €49.73 including shipping. Two of my friends who also purchased this box didn’t receive the Laura Mercier Primer in their box. They both emailed Glossybox but haven’t heard back yet so hopefully it is sent on to them. I don’t think I would sign up for a subscription but I will be checking out the special edition boxes for one off purchases.
I have been on the look-out for a new foundation for a while now. As much as I love Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24 Hour foundation, I have been wearing it for ages and felt it was time for a change. After a bit of research I spotted this on the Brown Thomas website and decided to give it a go. After checking it out on the Laura Mercier website and looking at some swatches online, I settled on the shade Vanillé, which turned out to be perfect for me. In fact I would say it’s the best that a foundation has ever matched my skin tone. It blends seamlessly into my skin so I don’t have to worry about blending it out and down my neck.
Laura Mercier Smooth-Finish Flawless Fluid is an oil free long wearing foundation that promises to magically blur imperfections for a smooth, seamless complexion. I would say that it does what it says on the box. The coverage is medium and buildable. The result is a natural matte finish that is not powdery or chalky. It feels light on the skin, I don’t notice that there is anything there but bear in mind if you are an occasional makeup wearer, I wear foundation every day. It is really long lasting, if I set it with a finishing powder it lasts all day without any shine or need for touch-ups. After wearing it all day and straight through on a night out without any touch-ups I would say it doesn’t last quite as well as the Lancôme. It started to break up on the chin and around the nose a bit, but not too noticeable. I suppose that is the trade off for a smoother more natural finish.
The only problem with this foundation is that it is quite runny. It’s a bi-phase formula that needs to be shaken for ten seconds before dispensing. Because of the runny formula, it can’t be stored upright or it leaks into the cap. I knew this from the reviews on the Laura Mercier website but I bought it anyway because even though people were complaining about this they all still said that they loved the foundation.
I decided to do a second set of before and after pictures, because it’s getting hard to get good natural lighting these days. In the after pictures I have applied what I think is the equivalent of a normal pump of most foundations.
Both of the after pictures are the same just slightly different lighting.
In this picture I have set the Laura Mercier Smooth-Finish Flawless Fluid with MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural, applied MAC Peachykeen blush and filled in my eyebrows with MAC Omega.
This is the first Laura Mercier products that I have tried and now I want to try more. It is pricey at €48 but I really like it and I think it’s worth the price tag. Have you tried this or any other Laura Mercier products?
