NARS SATIN LIP PENCIL IN RIKUGIEN: REVIEW AND PICTURES

NARS Satin Lip Pencil Rikugien

I got this sample 1.7g size NARS Satin Lip Pencil in the Harvey Nichols Glossybox, which I told you about on Monday. I was giddy with excitement as I picked through the box to see what was in it. When I saw the little NARS box I was hoping that what was inside would be a colour that I could actually wear. As soon as I opened it and saw the colour, it was love.

NARS Satin Lip Pencil Rikugien
I do love makeup in the pencil form. For some reason I expected this NARS Satin Lip Pencil to be hard like a lip liner. However, it is actually very soft and creamy, more like a lipstick. The formula is soft and buttery. It glides on easily and is well pigmented. It lasts well compared to other lip pencil products. I didn’t see any colour transfer on my glass. It is comfortable to wear and moisturising on the lips. Rikugien is described as a rose pink on the NARS web site but there is a brown hint to it. I think it’s the perfect neutral lippy for me. It’s a my lips but better shade.

The full size pencils are €25 slightly more expensive than other lip pencils such as Clinique Chubby Sticks but I still want more. Have you tried any of the NARS Satin Lip Pencils?

GLOSSYBOX FOR HARVEY NICHOLS: THE CHRISTMAS EDIT

Harvey Nichols GlossyboxThis is my first time purchasing from any of the beauty box subscriptions services. I love the idea behind them but I’ve heard such mixed reviews that I never felt they were worth the money. They all seem to start off great but then as the months go on the products seem to get less and less interesting. However, when a few people tweeted the link to preregister to buy the Harvey Nichols Glossybox, I had to check it out; I mean its Harvey Nichols. I didn’t realise that I could just purchase the one box, I had always thought you had to sign up to a subscription of a few months. So I will definitely be keeping an eye out for special edition boxes in the future. I didn’t want to do too much research on this box because I wanted to be surprised and since its Harvey Nichols I figured all the products would be quality. One quick glimpse at the picture on their web site and I saw the bands Laura Mercier and NARS and I was sold.

Harvey Nichols Glossybox
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Here is a rundown of what’s in the box:

Harvey Nichols Glossybox
Laura Mercier Foundation Primer – I was really excited about this because I have recently purchased the Smooth-Finish Flawless Fluid foundation. I have used this primer with the foundation twice now and they are great together so this may get a full review. It’s a decent 30ml size; the full size is 50ml.
Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream – I have always wanted to try Elemis products but they are so expensive. Hopefully I don’t fall in love with this because the 50ml size is about €100 but I am certainly going to enjoy the luxury of using my 15ml sample.
Dermalogica Overnight Repair Serum – ok so the bottle inside the box is actually tiny but you only use a few drops at night time so a little should go a long way. I’ve liked every Dermalogica product that I’ve tried so I have high hopes for this.
Rodial Bee Venom Moisturiser – another expensive brand that I haven’t really tried anything from before so this should be interesting.
Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real Mascara – I’ve been meaning to try this for ages because I really like Bad Gal Mascara.
Macadamia Natural Oil Healing Oil Treatment – I do love a good hair treatment so I can’t wait to try this.
OPI Avoplex Moisture Replenishing Lotion – this is a massive 120ml bottle so I am really excited about this.
NARS Satin Lip Pencil – of course I had to put this on as soon as I opened it and I love it. I have a funny feeling I will be getting some more of these, but this colour is lovely. This is definitely getting its own post.
La Coupe Coconut and Macadamia Oil – another hair treatment so my hair should be looking fabulous for Christmas nights out.
Show Beauty Lux Volume Mist – I can’t wait to try this, I hope it gives me massive hair and the bottle is a full size 150ml.
And Finally the Harvey Nichols Mini Scented Candle – the scent of this is gorgeous.

Harvey Nichols Glossybox
I have to say I am really impressed with the contents of this box and it was definitely worth the price which converts to €49.73 including shipping. Two of my friends who also purchased this box didn’t receive the Laura Mercier Primer in their box. They both emailed Glossybox but haven’t heard back yet so hopefully it is sent on to them. I don’t think I would sign up for a subscription but I will be checking out the special edition boxes for one off purchases.

EMPTIES: THE QUESTION OF REPURCHASING

I have never done an empties post before, if its empty it goes in the bin. I don’t usually see the point in showing you a bunch of empty packages. However, I noticed that I have quite a few products right now that are either empty or really close to it. Since there are quite a few things on the last dregs at the same time, the question of whether or not to repurchase needs serious consideration. When you start using a products at first it’s all new and exciting and you wonder how you ever lived without this product and you will totally repurchase it over and over, however as time wears on and new similar products are released it ends up moving down deeper into the stash and by the time you actually finish it you could end up being a bit meh about it, maybe preferring to try new replacements. Then again some new products become firm favourites and you use them every day and end up repurchasing them over and over. So on to my empties:

WP_20141104_001
First up is the Bobbi Brown Colour Corrector in Light Bisque. I have had this for ages despite the fact that I use it nearly every day. The thing is I don’t see any difference when I apply it over my dark lines under my eyes. Used under concealer those dark lines don’t show up in pictures and do appear concealed but I think the concealer alone gives much the same result. It is a lovely creamy formula that feels nice on the delicate under eye skin though. If I was to repurchase this I would try a different shade and get the sales assistant to apply it on me before I buy to make sure, but I’m in no rush, the Max Factor Colour Corrector pencil will be its replacement for now.

Next are two concealers; Nars Radiant Creamy concealer and Collection Lasting Perfection. I have been switching back and forth between them in an effort to make the Nars one last longer but what has ended up happening is that I am failing to see how the Nars at €27 is any better than the Collection one, which is a fiver. I have already repurchased a replacement Collection Lasting Perfection and the package seems to have been sexed up a bit so I hope the formula inside is the same. As for the Nars, maybe when I feel the need for a luxury purchase but for now I am happy with the Collection one. Before the Nars is completely gone I will do a post comparing the two and take pictures of before, after and at the end of the day to see if maybe it is worth €22 more.

WP_20141104_002
Now on to two Foundations: MAC Mineralise Satinfinish and Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24 Hour. The MAC looks great when just applied but gets shiny on my oily skin as the day goes on so I won’t be picking this up again. I love the Lancôme but I have been using it for ages now and feel like a change but just don’t know what to try next.

WP_20141104_005
MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural Powder, I have already repurchased this. It’s one of the items that I buy over and over again, I wouldn’t be without it. I still want the Make Up Forever Super Matte Loose Powder but I will always have a MAC Mineralise Skinfinish on hand.

WP_20141104_004
MAC Paint Pot in Painterly, which I use as an eyelid primer. I will pick up another one of these as it’s the best primer for my oily lids but I’m in no rush because I have been using the Kiko Long Lasting Stick Eyeshadows as primers and they are working really well. As for the MAC Omega Eyeshadow, that is what I use to fill in my brows. It’s the perfect ash shade for me so I will be picking up a new one stat.

What products are on your repurchase list? What doesn’t make the cut?

TOP TEN TAG: TEN OF MY FAVOURITES

I was tagged to do this top ten post by everyday unicorn. I had mixed feelings about it because I love seeing other bloggers’ top picks but I find it hard to pick favourites. With so many products to try and new ones hitting the shelves every day, I tend to have a new favourite until something better comes along and then that becomes my new favourite. There are however a few products that I keep repurchasing either because I think they are the best products for me or because I have some sentimental affection for them. So here they are:
Foundation:

Lancome
I loved MAC Studio Fix for ages until there was a load of hype when Lancôme released Teint Idole Ultra 24 Hour and I had to try it. It was instant love. Teint Idole Ultra is bullet proof, its lasts and lasts. It works well for my combo oily skin. It keeps my skin looking naturally matte without being cakey or heavy.
Concealer:

NARS Creamy Radian Concealer
Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer is my pick here. I am still on my first tube of this but I know I will be repurchasing this over and over. It conceals the dark lines under my eyes and brightens the area. It lasts all day without getting creepy and settling in my fine lines. It’s pricey but a little goes a long way so a tube will last a long time.
Powder:

MAC MSFN
This is a no brainer, MAC Mineralise Skin Finish Natural. I have this in light for everyday and in medium for when I am wearing tan. I have repurchased this so many times. I use it mostly as a finishing or setting powder to keep foundation in place and stop oily shine. It can also be used on its own as a mineral powder foundation.
Blush:

MAC Peaches
I have a strong affection for MAC Peaches. It was my first MAC blush and it was the first blush that I tried that made me instantly feel prettier. It’s just perfect for my colouring; it really brightens and lifts my complexion. MAC powder blushes are great quality and they last all day without needing touch-ups.
Bronzer:

MAC MSFN MD
Again it’s MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural but this time it’s the shade medium deep. There is no shimmer so it’s perfect for contouring and it can also be used as an all over bronzer if I get a spray tan.
Highlighter:

MAC Phloof
This is a tough one. I use highlighter in a C shape from under my outer brow bone to the top of the outer cheek bone everyday but I generally just use a light shade pearlescent eye shadow. MAC Phloof tends to be the one I use most often.
Mascara:

Lancome Grandiose Mascara
This is a new favourite but I have always been a fan of Lancôme mascaras so it no surprise that the new Lancôme Grandiose is becoming a firm favourite.
Eyeshadow:

MAC Satin Taupe
If I had to pick a favourite eyeshadow it would be MAC Satin Taupe. It’s a brilliant shade that can be used in so many looks but is also great all on its own. A sheer sweep across the lid is perfect for day time but you can also pack it on for a glam night look.
Brows:

MAC Omega
I always fill my brows in with MAC Omega eyeshadow. It’s the perfect ash tone for me and I think a powder shadow looks more natural on me than liquid or pencil formulas.
Lip Products:

Clinique Chubby Stick
Clinique Chubby Stick in Curvy Candy is my go to lip product of choice. I love the colour, its perfect for day and night. The Chubby Stick formula is quick and easy to apply or reapply and they are nice and hydrating on the lips.
So there you have it, I know it’s MAC heavy and all premium brands but I like to apply makeup in the morning and not have to do any touch-ups throughout the day. For some reason my handbag is heavy enough so I don’t want to add extra weight with a makeup bag in there as well; the only makeup in my handbag is the Chubby Stick and a Max Factor Colour Elixir gloss  ( I would say second favourite lip product).

What are your favourites? Do we share any of the same ones?

FACE OF THE DAY: #FOTD

WP_20140817_020

I like reading face of the day posts but I hardly ever do them myself because I am a creature of habit and tend to wear more or less the same products most days. I have decided to make more of an effort to mix it up a bit now and then in order to get some more use out of all the other products that are sitting in my stash being ignored. Some of which are actually really great products but like I said it’s just habit that keeps me reaching for the old reliable. So here is today’s face of the day:

WP_20140817_002
Foundation: Max Factor Whipped Cream Foundation
Setting Powder – MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural
Blush: Rimmel Lasting Finish Soft Colour Mono Blush in Live Pink
Concealer – Nars Radian Creamy Concealer
Eye shadow: Maybelline Big Eyes Eyeshadow Palette in Brown
Eyebrows: MAC Omega
Mascara: Max Factor Clump Defy Extensions
Lipstick: Clarins Joli Rouge Brilliant Perfect Shine Sheer Lipstick in Sweet Plum

Do you mix your makeup up regularly or are you a creature of habit like me?

SOFT AND EASY DAYTIME FACE OF THE DAY

b4ade037-b796-4277-b7ab-e0751c3036ec_jpeg

Today’s look is just a soft face of the day that is easy. These type looks make me feel like I am polished and put together without being over the top. No fear of “where does your wan think she is going with all that slap”. Most days I don’t really bother with doing my eyes or lips but instead reserve the full face of makeup for nights out, but now and again at the weekends when I have a bit more time I like to do soft look on  my eyes and maybe wear a tinted lip balm or gloss. Sounds like I am low maintenance, but we all know the truth.
To start I did a bit of prep work to create the illusion of a flawless base.

WP_20140706_013
I used:
Max Factor CC Colour Corrector Pencil in green on some redness at the sides of my nose and on my chin
I also use the yellow CC pencil on the dark circles under my eyes and then applied some NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer over the areas where I used the Colour Corrector Pencils.

WP_20140706_012

On my face:
I used a sample I had of Lancôme  Miracle Air De Teint foundation in 010.
I set my foundation with MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural in light. I use the Mineralise Skinfinish Natural in Medium Deep to contour my cheeks and then used MAC Fleur Power Powder Blush.

WP_20140706_014

For my eyes:
I always use MAC Omega to fill in my brows.
I used Max Factor in Feral Brown in the outer corners and blended it in to the crease
Then I applied Max Factor Auburn Envy on the lids
I then lined my eyes with Feral Brown and applied Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara to my lashes.

WP_20140706_015

To finish I lined my lips with MAC Subculture and loaded on some Max Factor Colour Elixir gloss in Enchanting Coral.

FACE OF THE DAY

WP_20140615_007

Sorry but as much as I love blogging, when the sun is shining the last place I want to be is inside writing a post. It is such a rare treat in Ireland for us to have beautiful clear blue skies and warm sunshine especially two whole days of it at the weekend when I am off work so I feel it’s important to take full advantage and get out and enjoy it. With that in mind this will be a quick face of the day post using a BB cream for a lighter base. When the sun shines we are all about pared back more natural looking makeup so we go all BB mad.

WP_20140615_001
Although when I lay out all the products that I use for a “pared back natural look”, I have to wonder.

WP_20140615_002 WP_20140615_003
Base:
Max Factor Facefinity Primer
Garnier BB Cream for Oily/Combo Skin
Max Factor CC Colour Correctors yellow for under eyes and green for redness at sides of nose
Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer
Nars Light Reflecting Setting Powder
MAC Peaches blush

WP_20140615_004

Eyes:
MAC Paint Pot in Rubenesque all over lid
MAC Omega for brows and crease
MAC Blacktrack Fluidline liner
MAC Coffee liner on lower lashes
Clarins Eyeliner in Gold on waterline
Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara

WP_20140615_012

So there we have lots of products for a “natural” bright eyed summery look.
