Love it or hate it, it’s that time of the year again, Valentine’s Day. I’m a bit of a girly girl so I love the chance to get dressed up in pink (red isn’t a great colour for me). Today I am showing you three outfits to give you some inspiration if you are heading out on Saturday Night.
First up is an outfit I showed you a while back. It doesn’t get much pinker than this hot pink, bodycon Vesper Dress, Vero Moda necklace and New Look Shoes.
The next outfit is from this recent post. It’s a more subtle outfit but still quite feminine and romantic. The top and skirt are both from River Island and the shoes are New Look.
Last we have an outfit that I haven’t shown you yet. This is a lot less girlie than the other two and perfect if you don’t want to be too dressed up but still want to channel a bit of romance.
This berry pink top is from Oasis. It is plain at the front but has some cute pleating details at the back.
The faux leather biker jacket is from New Look and I have had it for ages, so a good investment considering its still in style. You can get similar ones to this in many high street shops now.
The trousers are from Dorothy Perkins. Another outfit option would be to wear leather look trousers or leggings with a blazer, keeping it edgy by swapping where you wear the leather (double leather could look a little 80’s glam rock).
The shoes are from River Island, any excuse to wear them. I told you it’s all about the printed shoes.
The necklace is from Carraig Donn. I love the rose gold colour of it and the filigree heart is very pretty.
What are you planning on wearing this Valentine’s Day?
I was trying to be good this year and not spend too much in the sales. However I didn’t need to try too hard because I found the sales very disappointing. It appeared to me that most of the stock was from last summer. I’m not really ready for pastel coloured maxi dresses just yet, thanks. Many shops only had a rail or two of sale items. I was a bit tunnel visioned at first because I was on the hunt for a glamorous dress for New Year’s Eve, but when I couldn’t find one I opened the search up a bit and found a few nice items, however they are mostly tops.
First up are the two tops I picked up in a local boutique.
I’ve wanted a nice plain navy top for a while. I wear my plain navy t-shirt a lot because I like the way it looks with a statement necklace, blazer and skinny jeans but sometimes I think it would be better to have a navy top that is a little bit dressier. This Red Chilli one is a lovely crepe material with scallop hems, so it’s exactly what I wanted. It was reduced from €12 to €8 and I would have paid the €12 but I haven’t noticed it before.
This top is from the brand Marc Angelo and it is stunning. I love the colour and the jewelled neckline. This is what I actually ended up wearing on New Year’s Eve with a skirt. The day I bought it I was wearing black skinny jeans and it looked really good with them. It’s a lovely fit. I took the tag off this straight away but I think it was reduced to €25 from €35.
Now the High Street
I picked these two tops up in Vero Moda. They were reduced to €10 each from €21.95. They are the same style but different prints. These will look good for work, casual or even a night out.
The jumper and top are from Oasis. The jumper was reduced to €31 from €44. I think the price is still a bit high but I really love the colour and print. The berry pink top is plain in the front but has some lovely pleating and gathering on the back. I can’t wait to wear this with skinnies and a long dangly necklace. It was reduced to €20 from €35.
Last but not least we have my favourite. I’m not sure this counts because I bought it before Christmas but it was reduced in the House of Fraser brand event, it was £45 sterling down from £75. This biker jacket is from the brand Linea. I love this colour, which is why I bought it. I have been checking out brown biker style jackets for a while now but all the little details like the zips, buttons and seams made this one stand out for me. I ordered it online and when it arrived I couldn’t believe how soft the faux leather material feels. I love this jacket!
Did you get anything nice in the sales?
I am always a bit afraid of wearing trouser that aren’t jeans. I’m just not comfortable with how they sit on me especially on my backside. I have had these for a while now and this is the first time they made it into a post. Printed trousers are a massive trend for SS14 and I am pretty sure the trend is going to stick around for the foreseeable future. There is a whole range of shapes of printed trousers from loose palazzo and joggers to structured cigarette leg and slacks. As for prints they go from subtle all the way up to absolutely barking mad. I personally prefer the structured cut with an easy to wear dark tile print. Although I have seen some gorgeous floral joggers, I am just not brave enough.
I got these trousers on sale on the Mango website a while ago now, but there are similar styles in many high street stores. I figured the black would be more flattering on my lower half than a bright colour.
Its summer so I still want to wear bright colours so I choose this lime blouse from Oasis. (You can see this blouse with a scarf print skirt in this post.) I think wearing a vibrant colour with these trousers takes the office look off them and makes them more fun to wear on a night out.
I picked this necklace up in Carraig Donn. I like the blue with the lime and I like the way it sits in the opening of the blouse looking all dainty.
The shoes are from Dune. I always like to have a pop of colour on my feet, and you can’t go too far wrong with a nice pair of pointed toe courts.
I tried a few different blazers but figured they all looked a bit too much like office wear so I decided to go with my PU biker from New Look for a bit of casual edge.
How brave are you when it comes to printed trousers?
Ok so this skirt has made it into two other posts already (here and here) but I love it so much I figured one more wouldn’t hurt. Besides it’s important to actually wear the clothes that you buy. It drives me nuts with the media make a big deal out of Kate Middleton wearing something more than once. That’s what you are supposed to do, not even royalty can afford to buy new clothes for every time they leave the house. But with a little creativity you can make something you have already worn look new by pairing it with different pieces and accessories. This time I am going all out bright and glam. This outfit would be good for a special occasion, big night out or even as a wedding guest.
This orange top is Florence & Fred at Tesco. It was cheap but the material feels like it could be more expensive. I’ve tucked it into the skirt here but the elasticated and pleated waist band looks good out over skinny jeans. I love wearing vibrant colours during the summer, and I am sure you all know by now how much I love pairing orange and blue together.
The blazer is by Angel Parts and as far as I can remember I got this one from iclothing.ie. I actually have this blazer in a few colours because the tailored and cropped fit sits nice over dresses and they look good over jeans with a pretty printed top.
The skirt is from Oasis. I have to say I am happy I bought this skirt, a printed pencil skirt can be so versatile. I could wear this to work with a white or black blouse and it wouldn’t look OTT, yet I wore it on a night out with a black peplum top with cap lace sleeves and the same shoes and my friend reckoned I could wear that outfit to a wedding.
This necklace is from Penneys. A round neck top always needs a little something and this necklace is enough but still dainty so it’s not too much. When you consider that there are some strong colours going on here, a chunky statement necklace would be too much.
The shoes are by Menbur. I’ve mentioned in loads of posts about how much I love Menbur shoes, they just fit me perfectly so I don’t slip out of them as I’m walking. Then there is the fact that they are gorgeous.
What do you think of the blue and orange? Have you invested in a printed midi skirt?
Today I am showing you another Jaime La Vie dress from Carraig Donn. This is another brand, whose dresses I am very fond of and I can usually pick up any of their dresses in my size and feel confident that it will fit perfectly.
The main reason I bought this dress is that I love the colours and style. Colour blocking almost always looks classy and I love orange and navy together. Let’s not forget the gold zips, we all know I love gold zips as a stand out detail on a garment. The panelling style is very flattering, which is always a plus. The other great thing about this dress is that it is really versatile. I have styled it here for a night out with heels, clutch and a statement necklace. It could easily be worn to work with simpler jewellery, a blazer and you could even put a blouse underneath to be extra professional.
I also plan on wearing this dress out to Sunday lunch with the family by wearing it with my nude wedge heel courts from Oasis and this neutral toned Guess bag.
My nude courts are Knightsbridge by Kate Appleby. These are really comfortable and comfortable nude courts, that you can actually walk in, should be a staple in every woman’s wardrobe.
I bought this necklace while on holiday in Portugal. I love picking up jewellery and accessories on holiday because it’s very unlikely that you will see it on anyone else when you get home.
The bag is a cross body bag from Penneys but I don’t really like cross body bags so I shortened the strap to use it as a clutch.
It may technically be summer but you still need to layer up a bit. Today’s outfit has some pastels peeking out but it’s not quite screaming summer either so I think it’s appropriate for the mixed bag of weather we are having lately. I think double denim can look quite cool but I’m not sure I am cool enough to carry it off so I cheated a little here by breaking it up with the top underneath and wearing dark navy jeans.
I’ve wanted a denim shirt for a while now but it’s hard to find one in just the right colour. This one is not too light, it’s not too dark and it has some nice fading. The material is quite thin so I won’t roast when I wear it with another light layer like I have here. I got this denim shirt in New Look recently.
The check shirt underneath is from Penneys and I have had this for a while now. I really like the peach and aqua blue along with the navy in this shirt. I actually wear this a lot. I think it works really well with the denim shirt and the navy jeans.
The Navy jeans are from Dorothy Perkins.
This necklace is another recent purchase and it’s from Carraig Donn. I absolutely fell in love with this the minute I saw it and I think it ties the whole outfit together nicely.
The shoes are from Oasis. I’ve said it a few times now but nude wedge heel courts are a brilliant type of shoe to have as you can wear them with almost anything and they are comfortable.
Are you brave enough to wear full on double denim or do you cheat like me?
Well we have reached another Friday after a short week. Sometimes the week after a bank holiday Monday feels so long, especially when it has been wet, cold and windy all week. To cheer things up a bit, todays outfit is one of my favourite colour combinations, teal and plum. As you may already know, I love all shades of green and my second favourite colour is purple. This outfit is smart casual and I would wear it if I was meeting up with some friends during the day, like for a coffee or some retail therapy.
This Vero Moda top is a recent purchase from an independent boutique. It was on a sale rail with a sign saying everything €10. The sales assistant reckoned that was a mistake and it was only new in but the manager said it was indeed €10 so I don’t know if I found a bargain or just got lucky. I love the colour and the print is really cute too. The loose shape that comes in at the waist is really comfortable to wear and it hides a multitude on those days when I am feeling a bit pudgy.
I picked this blazer up in Penneys a while ago. The relaxed shape means it works better with jeans and tops rather than a dress. The strong plum colour is great for colour blocking or contrasting with brighter colours. The jeans are my faithful old reliables from New Look.
The Love Moschino bag was a Christmas present from a few years ago. Who would have though a teal bag would be the perfect present for me? I love this bag!
The wedge heel nude courts are from Oasis. Shoes like these that you can wear with anything, while dressed up or casual, and that are comfortable to walk in are a must have for the summer.
I picked this statement necklace up while on holiday in Portugal.
Have you got any good bargains lately? What is your favourite colour combo?
