I have never done an empties post before, if its empty it goes in the bin. I don’t usually see the point in showing you a bunch of empty packages. However, I noticed that I have quite a few products right now that are either empty or really close to it. Since there are quite a few things on the last dregs at the same time, the question of whether or not to repurchase needs serious consideration. When you start using a products at first it’s all new and exciting and you wonder how you ever lived without this product and you will totally repurchase it over and over, however as time wears on and new similar products are released it ends up moving down deeper into the stash and by the time you actually finish it you could end up being a bit meh about it, maybe preferring to try new replacements. Then again some new products become firm favourites and you use them every day and end up repurchasing them over and over. So on to my empties:
First up is the Bobbi Brown Colour Corrector in Light Bisque. I have had this for ages despite the fact that I use it nearly every day. The thing is I don’t see any difference when I apply it over my dark lines under my eyes. Used under concealer those dark lines don’t show up in pictures and do appear concealed but I think the concealer alone gives much the same result. It is a lovely creamy formula that feels nice on the delicate under eye skin though. If I was to repurchase this I would try a different shade and get the sales assistant to apply it on me before I buy to make sure, but I’m in no rush, the Max Factor Colour Corrector pencil will be its replacement for now.
Next are two concealers; Nars Radiant Creamy concealer and Collection Lasting Perfection. I have been switching back and forth between them in an effort to make the Nars one last longer but what has ended up happening is that I am failing to see how the Nars at €27 is any better than the Collection one, which is a fiver. I have already repurchased a replacement Collection Lasting Perfection and the package seems to have been sexed up a bit so I hope the formula inside is the same. As for the Nars, maybe when I feel the need for a luxury purchase but for now I am happy with the Collection one. Before the Nars is completely gone I will do a post comparing the two and take pictures of before, after and at the end of the day to see if maybe it is worth €22 more.
Now on to two Foundations: MAC Mineralise Satinfinish and Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24 Hour. The MAC looks great when just applied but gets shiny on my oily skin as the day goes on so I won’t be picking this up again. I love the Lancôme but I have been using it for ages now and feel like a change but just don’t know what to try next.
MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural Powder, I have already repurchased this. It’s one of the items that I buy over and over again, I wouldn’t be without it. I still want the Make Up Forever Super Matte Loose Powder but I will always have a MAC Mineralise Skinfinish on hand.
MAC Paint Pot in Painterly, which I use as an eyelid primer. I will pick up another one of these as it’s the best primer for my oily lids but I’m in no rush because I have been using the Kiko Long Lasting Stick Eyeshadows as primers and they are working really well. As for the MAC Omega Eyeshadow, that is what I use to fill in my brows. It’s the perfect ash shade for me so I will be picking up a new one stat.
What products are on your repurchase list? What doesn’t make the cut?
I like reading face of the day posts but I hardly ever do them myself because I am a creature of habit and tend to wear more or less the same products most days. I have decided to make more of an effort to mix it up a bit now and then in order to get some more use out of all the other products that are sitting in my stash being ignored. Some of which are actually really great products but like I said it’s just habit that keeps me reaching for the old reliable. So here is today’s face of the day:
Foundation: Max Factor Whipped Cream Foundation
Setting Powder – MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural
Blush: Rimmel Lasting Finish Soft Colour Mono Blush in Live Pink
Concealer – Nars Radian Creamy Concealer
Eye shadow: Maybelline Big Eyes Eyeshadow Palette in Brown
Eyebrows: MAC Omega
Mascara: Max Factor Clump Defy Extensions
Lipstick: Clarins Joli Rouge Brilliant Perfect Shine Sheer Lipstick in Sweet Plum
Do you mix your makeup up regularly or are you a creature of habit like me?
Today’s look is just a soft face of the day that is easy. These type looks make me feel like I am polished and put together without being over the top. No fear of “where does your wan think she is going with all that slap”. Most days I don’t really bother with doing my eyes or lips but instead reserve the full face of makeup for nights out, but now and again at the weekends when I have a bit more time I like to do soft look on my eyes and maybe wear a tinted lip balm or gloss. Sounds like I am low maintenance, but we all know the truth.
To start I did a bit of prep work to create the illusion of a flawless base.
Max Factor CC Colour Corrector Pencil in green on some redness at the sides of my nose and on my chin
I also use the yellow CC pencil on the dark circles under my eyes and then applied some NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer over the areas where I used the Colour Corrector Pencils.
On my face:
I used a sample I had of Lancôme Miracle Air De Teint foundation in 010.
I set my foundation with MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural in light. I use the Mineralise Skinfinish Natural in Medium Deep to contour my cheeks and then used MAC Fleur Power Powder Blush.
For my eyes:
I always use MAC Omega to fill in my brows.
I used Max Factor in Feral Brown in the outer corners and blended it in to the crease
Then I applied Max Factor Auburn Envy on the lids
I then lined my eyes with Feral Brown and applied Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara to my lashes.
To finish I lined my lips with MAC Subculture and loaded on some Max Factor Colour Elixir gloss in Enchanting Coral.
Sorry but as much as I love blogging, when the sun is shining the last place I want to be is inside writing a post. It is such a rare treat in Ireland for us to have beautiful clear blue skies and warm sunshine especially two whole days of it at the weekend when I am off work so I feel it’s important to take full advantage and get out and enjoy it. With that in mind this will be a quick face of the day post using a BB cream for a lighter base. When the sun shines we are all about pared back more natural looking makeup so we go all BB mad.
Although when I lay out all the products that I use for a “pared back natural look”, I have to wonder.
Max Factor Facefinity Primer
Garnier BB Cream for Oily/Combo Skin
Max Factor CC Colour Correctors yellow for under eyes and green for redness at sides of nose
Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer
Nars Light Reflecting Setting Powder
MAC Peaches blush
MAC Paint Pot in Rubenesque all over lid
MAC Omega for brows and crease
MAC Blacktrack Fluidline liner
MAC Coffee liner on lower lashes
Clarins Eyeliner in Gold on waterline
Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara
So there we have lots of products for a “natural” bright eyed summery look.
On Monday I told you about how I got on with NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder. Since there is no NARS counter near me I had to order online and it only made sense to order a second item to get free shipping. Seriously though, I’ve wanted to try this concealer for ages now. There was a load of hype about it last year but since I’ve never tried any NARS products before I was reluctant to take the plunge especially since I couldn’t get to a NARS counter to swatch the shades to find the right one for me. Apparently the two lightest shades are more often than not sold out in Ireland.
After carefully studying the shades and swatches online I settled on Vanilla. Vanilla is an ivory shade with a pink tone. I was hoping the pink would help neutralise the blue under my eyes. Under my eyes is the main area I need concealer; I very rarely suffer from spots but I do have redness at the sides of my nose. The problem I have with concealers is that if they cover the darkness under my eyes effectively they tend to be a thick consistency and end up settling in the fine lines around my eyes making me look totally haggard. But like it says on the tin, this is creamy. I am well impressed with how perfectly this covers the darkness under my eyes and it also covers the redness at the sides of my nose. The best bit is that it doesn’t settle into the creepy lines around my eyes. The shade Vanilla has worked out perfectly for me and it blends in seamlessly. I also find that this concealer lasts all day. I’ve put it on in the morning and ended up going out that night without redoing my makeup but instead just slapped on some eye shadow and mascara and it still looked perfect when I got home in the wee hours of the morning, then again maybe my vision was a bit blurry.
I usually apply my concealer after my foundation. I find this makes it last longer and I find I use a lot less concealer this way. I like to keep my concealer to where it is really needed rather than plastering my whole face with it, that way the finished look is more natural. In the pictures below the first one is without any makeup and you can see the blueness at the inner corner and under my eyes. The second photo is with one pump of Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24 Hour and the blue still shines through. The next photo is the NARS Cream Concealer over my foundation = perfection. Lastly a full face shot so you can see how bright and even my face looks.
What is your favourite concealer? Have you tried this one?
