Sunshine, glorious sunshine!!! With my vitamin D levels fully topped up I am in high spirits. It’s been a gorgeous week so on to today’s gorgeous dress. Many of us develop a staple look or uniform of sorts; a style of outfit that we feel comfortable in and think we look good in, so we recreate it over and over in varying shades. How many of us wear a blazer of some colour with skinny jeans more or less every day? For me, as much as I love a blazer and skinnys, it’s either a knit dress in winter or a shirt dress in summer. I do love a shirt dress.
Today’s shirt dress is probably the prettiest one I have ever seen. The print is just so gorgeous; I love the watercolour style floral and all the pretty colours. The shape, length and cut of this shirt dress are all just perfect for me and I feel a million bucks in this dress. It’s from River Island. River Island, if you are reading this, you are killing it lately, keep up the good work.
With such a pretty print, I decided to keep the accessories simple. The necklace and bracelet are both from Thomas Sabo. I love that I can swap the charms back and forth between the bracelet and the necklace to suit what I am wearing or my mood.
The shoes are my nude courts from Kate Appleby for Knightsbridge. They are so comfortable.
What’s your go to outfit?
Well it’s been a short week and we have another bank holiday to look forward to. Not to mention that there has been a fair bit of sunshine around this week. Maybe I’m overdosing on vitamin D here, but I am full of the joys this week. In my head I am already planning loads of summer outfits for future Friday Style posts.
I have to admit that I love a good shirt dress. When you get the right one they can be so versatile. I am wearing this one with navy tights and heels because this is how I wear it to work. It would also look great with heels but without the tights for a night out or for a relaxed summer’s eve look pair it with some strappy sandals. You could also wear it with some wedges for a day of shopping or meeting the girls for coffee. This one is from Oasis and I love the added detail of the double collar along with the gold buttons and belt buckle, which make it easy to dress up. The relaxed and comfortable shape mean I can also dress it down. The material is lovely and soft and it doesn’t hold creases.
Here I have paired it with a denim jacket I got in New Look a few years ago but sometimes I wear it with a blazer for a smarter look or with my faux leather biker to keep it more casual but slightly edgy.
These pointed toe coral courts are from Penneys.
This coral statement necklace is also from Penneys. Last weekend I picked up three great statement necklaces in Penneys all at €5 each, I mean how could you leave them behind.
This clutch was a “free gift with purchase” from The Body Shop recently. A lot of times those free bags end up being something I never use but the colour of this one is perfect for summer so it should get used fairly often.
What do you think of shirt dresses? How do you like to style them?
“The fish swam out of the ocean, grew legs and started walking…” if it wasn’t in your head already, it is now. I’ve had stuck in my head all weekend so I thought I would share.
In my opinion the shirt dress is a necessary wardrobe staple. You can style it in so many ways; however it is hard to find the perfect black shirt dress. The one I have here is from Mango. As much as I like this one I am still on the lookout for “the perfect one”. The only problems with this one are that it creases easily and sticks to tights, but I do love the style and fit of it. I also have one from Pennys/Primark, but it has the same problems as this Mango one plus its see trough, so black tights and a top underneath are a must, unless you like being ogled. You can’t see much of it in the photos because this post is more about how the whole outfit is styled than about one individual item.
Here I have styled the shirt dress with a faux leather biker jacket from New Look. The biker jacket has been everywhere for last few seasons and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. This season sees the introduction of the suede biker. I’m a bit torn on this because they look class, but on the other hand suede in Ireland, need I say more. I love the gold hardware on my biker jacket. I think it really dresses it up and makes it look far more lux.
This scarf is from Awear and is absolutely massive. It’s really long and wide, making it feel and look very sophisticated and luxurious. The pink is a nice injection of colour to this outfit. The charcoal print can look navy when worn with other navy clothing or look black next to black, so it is quite versatile and I get loads of wear out of it.
These boots are from Barratts. The leather of the boot and buckle detail ties in with the faux leather and gold hardware of the jacket.
Hmm…, I wonder if I have any other black and gold accessories I could add here.
Love this Michael Kors bag.
