FACE OF THE DAY: #FOTD

Today’s post is just a quick face of the day post but before I get on to that I just want to let you all know that I am cutting back on blogging for the summer. I have been blogging for about two and a half years now and I really enjoy it but it is time consuming. What I enjoy most is the interaction with like minded people on my blog as well as on twitter and through reading and commenting on other blogs. I really enjoy the comments and replies and getting and giving feedback. It’s nice to know that I’m not nuts and that there are loads of other people out there who are as mad about all thing beauty and fashion as me. Unfortunately there are so many things I want to do with my evenings and weekends that I am finding it hard to keep up with regular posts. But since I love it so much I plan on doing simpler outfit of the day, face of the day kind of picture posts on twitter (@Ahsuretislovely) and Instagram (@ahsuretislovely). I haven’t been using Instagram before now but that will all change now as I think it will perfect for posting pics with the list of products or clothes. If I come across a product that needs a proper review then I will indeed do a full post and it’s more than likely that when the summer is over and the evenings are long and dark, I will be back blogging regularly.
So here is today’s face of the day:

ROSE GOLD AND CAT FLICK EYE LOOK FEATURING MAC, KIKO AND MAX FACTOR

Anyone who has been following my little blog for a while now will have noticed that I rarely use liquid eye liner. I’m just far too much of a clumsy moo. Noting worse than almost being done doing your makeup and then ruining it all with dodgy liquid eyeliner, pencil is so much easier to tidy up. I know I could do my eyes first but that just feels all wrong. I bought the Real Techniques Silicone Liner brush ages ago and it does make it so much easier but let’s face it, I’m a creature of habit so I hardly ever use it. Today I thought it was time I did something different as I am always lining my eyes with brown or purple pencil or eye shadow. So I broke out the RT Silicone Liner Brush and MAC Fluidline, another thing I have had for ages and hardly ever use. I really like the look of a sharp black liquid eyeliner flick over pale metallic eye shadow, so that’s what I have tried to do here:

Here is how I used them:

1. I used Kiko Long Lasting Stick in Golden Beige all over the lid and crease as an eyelid primer
2. I then used Max Factor Auburn Envy in the crease
3. Next I applied MAC All That Glitters all over the lid
4. In the outer corner I added MAX Factor Feral Brown for extra definition
5. I used the RT Silicone Brush to line the top lid with MAC Blacktrack
6. I lined both water lines with MAC Coffee, I then lined under Coffee with Feral Brown and went under that with All that Glitters
Finally I applied Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara

While my line is far from perfect, it’s pretty good for me. Are you a pro with liquid liner or are you a clumsy novice like me?

EYE LOOK: VIOLET EYELINER

A couple of weeks back I spotted something on the X-Factor, Cheryl wearing violet eye shadow as eyeliner on her bottom lash line, a look she obviously stole from me in this post and this one, I used to do this look a lot but I haven’t done it in ages. I had forgotten about it so here is again with a bit of a fresh update. I decided to add a little pop of orange in here because I love gold and orange tones on my green eyes and purple and orange look great together.

EYE LOOK FOR GREEN EYES: PURPLES

baf3d68f-a75f-4047-acb8-0a12fcbc7567_jpeg

They say opposites attract and the same is true for colours in that colours opposite each other on the colour wheel complement each other. Apply this logic to eyes and the colours opposite your eye colour on the wheel will compliment your eyes and make the colour of your eyes really stand out. As you can see on the colour wheel below reds and purples will make the green of my eyes pop. For blue eyes reds, browns and golds will work and on brown eyes greens, blues and purples.

Below I have an eye look using purple eye shadows and you can see how green my eyes look with the contrast of the purples.

So there you have a purple eye look to bring out green eyes. What eye shadows do you use to bring out the colour of your eyes?

SOFT AND EASY DAYTIME FACE OF THE DAY

b4ade037-b796-4277-b7ab-e0751c3036ec_jpeg

Today’s look is just a soft face of the day that is easy. These type looks make me feel like I am polished and put together without being over the top. No fear of “where does your wan think she is going with all that slap”. Most days I don’t really bother with doing my eyes or lips but instead reserve the full face of makeup for nights out, but now and again at the weekends when I have a bit more time I like to do soft look on  my eyes and maybe wear a tinted lip balm or gloss. Sounds like I am low maintenance, but we all know the truth.
To start I did a bit of prep work to create the illusion of a flawless base.

WP_20140706_013
I used:
Max Factor CC Colour Corrector Pencil in green on some redness at the sides of my nose and on my chin
I also use the yellow CC pencil on the dark circles under my eyes and then applied some NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer over the areas where I used the Colour Corrector Pencils.

On my face:
I used a sample I had of Lancôme  Miracle Air De Teint foundation in 010.
I set my foundation with MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural in light. I use the Mineralise Skinfinish Natural in Medium Deep to contour my cheeks and then used MAC Fleur Power Powder Blush.

WP_20140706_014

For my eyes:
I always use MAC Omega to fill in my brows.
I used Max Factor in Feral Brown in the outer corners and blended it in to the crease
Then I applied Max Factor Auburn Envy on the lids
I then lined my eyes with Feral Brown and applied Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara to my lashes.

To finish I lined my lips with MAC Subculture and loaded on some Max Factor Colour Elixir gloss in Enchanting Coral.

EYE LOOK WITH MAC SUMMER HAZE AND TWILIGHT FALLS

MAC Summer Haze & Twilight Falls

It’s Monday and it’s the start of a full week so I thought I would ease us into it with a light and easy picture heavy eye look post. You may have noticed that I have done eye looks with these two eye shadows before both using them separately and together because they really are favourites of mine. I haven’t used them in a while though because I have been playing with lots of new eye shadows and these beauties have been left aside. However, when I was in a rush to get ready on Saturday night, it was these two that I reached for, reminding me of why I love them. I liked how my eyes looked so much on Saturday night that I decided to use them to do a softer day time look on Sunday. The colours in Summer Haze are perfect for brightening up my eyes the day after the night before, while the Twilight Falls is perfect for contouring and defining.
The best thing about mineralise or marbled eye shadows is that you can either run you brush over all the colours to create a different shade every time or you can dip the tip of your brush into the individual colours, which is what I have done it the look below.

1. Light pearlescent champagne colour – highlight in inner corner
2. Metallic orange shade – all over lid and crease, taking it slightly above the crease
3. Dark mauve colour – outer corner and into the centre of the crease
4. Metallic bronze – Liner

Clarins Gold Liner & Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara
I also used the Clarins Eye Pencil in Gold on the waterline to cover a bit of redness and then finished it all off with Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara.

Do you prefer to sweep your brush across marbled eye shadows to get a mix of all the colours or dip the tip of your brush into the individual shades?

EYE LOOK WITH SMASHBOX FULL EXPOSURE PALETTE

I hope you are not getting bored of this palette yet because I haven’t even gotten to the mattes yet; so far I have only been using them to as a contour in the crease. I do love a bit of shimmer. Anyway I have been working my way down the palette from the subtle nudes and browns to the dark metallic charcoal grey on the end. I more often than not play safe with eye shadows and try to stick to shades of brown. I find black to be far too harsh for my colouring but this dark grey was far more complementary than I expected. The green of my eyes really stands out against this dark metallic colour. So here are the pictures so you can see for yourself:
