Well it’s been a busy weekend so we’ll start the week with an easy lippy post. I got this one in this gift set but they are €9 to buy individually in Boots. Sexy Mother Pucker Lip Lacquer is a gloss/lipstick hybrid. It’s more pigmented than a gloss but not as opaque as a lipstick. I think there is supposed to be a “3-D Plump” effect but I don’t really notice that this makes my lips any plumper than the slight fuller effect you get with any shiny gloss.
I have the shade Charm Offensive, which is a dusky mauve pink. It goes on evenly and leaves a lovely glossy finish. The formula is a bit on the sticky side but it’s not uncomfortable. It’s neither hydrating nor drying. With all the new long lasting glosses, glossy balms and now the oil in glosses, this seems fairly basic. It’s shine and colour for your lips, nothing more but it doesn’t really claim to be anything more. There is loads of transfer onto cups and glasses but after two hours wear and two drinks there is still plenty of colour and shine left on my lips and as it fades it leaves a slight stain but you do need to reapply regularly to keep it glossy. So here are the pictures:
It’s a nice basic gloss at a good price but it won’t set the world alight. Have you tried any of the Sexy Mother Pucker lip lacquers?
Today I am telling you about what I think is the perfect combination for preparing the skin for fake tan. These two also work great together in between tan application to remove any leftover patches from the last tan application and prepare the skin for the next application. Many of us only turn our attention to fake tan in summer but I find I like a light tan now at the weekends if I’m planning on heading out, to help cover the blue look and warm my skin up a bit. I just want to look like I have a healthy glow instead of my usual winter deathly pallor so it’s important that even a light tan looks natural instead of streaky and patchy. My current favourite choice of tan is Cocoa Brown 1 Hour tan. I use the dark on my legs if I plan on bearing them and the original everywhere else. I usually put this on at night and wash it off in the morning; it doesn’t continue developing after three hours so after a shower in the morning to wash off the guide colour, I’m left with the perfect light tan for me. It fades nice and evenly throughout the week before I need to scrub off anything that remains to prep for the next application.
Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub is brilliant at removing any leftover tan. It contains smashed brown sugar, sweet lime, almond oil and macadamia grains. It’s a really good scrub that leaves my skin feeling silky smooth. It’s one of those scrubs that moisturises your skin as it exfoliates. I don’t have dry skin so I don’t feel the need to moisturise after this scrub but I do anyway because I want that extra luxurious feeling and I want to make sure my skin is in tip top shape for applying tan.
Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter is a seriously moisturising body butter. Containing Shea butter and aloe vera, it leaves my skin feeling amazing. It also smells delicious. After using these two together, my skin feels amazingly smooth and silky.
I usually use these two a day or two before applying fake tan. Moisturiser blocks fake tan from working so I don’t think the tan would develop evenly right after using the scrub and body butter with all the rich moisturising ingredients in them. I think it’s better to have a shower just using a normal cleanser in between using these two and applying fake tan. I also think fake tan develops more evenly if it’s applied a good while after showering. I usually shower in the morning and then apply tan that night.
What products do you use to prepare your skin for fake tan?
You may remember that I got this massive Soap & Glory set for Christmas. I had intended to space out the reviews of the products in it as much as possible so as not to bore you but this was love at first sniff. If you have been reading this little blog for a while then you will know that if I like the scent, then I am totally sold.
Soap & Glory Butter Yourself Moisture Lotion is a whole lot more than just a pretty scent though. For starters the bottle is massive so this should last me ages. The pump is really handy, it makes application a whole lot easier when you don’t have to try and squeeze more out of a bottle when your hands are all greased up. The best thing is that the cream feels very rich and creamy when you are applying it, but it actually dries into the skin really quickly. So less time spent hopping up and down next to the radiator in the nip. I have to say I used this after the Sugar Scrub and my skin felt amazingly soft and smooth.
Now for the scent. On the bottle it says “Fruitigo Fragrance with notes of frozen yuzu, orange oil, green fig, and jungle pomelo essence”. I have no idea what any of that is but it seems to be a winning combination. I’m guessing the scent is enhanced by the Shea butter, fig pulp extract, along with almond, mango and moringa oils. It reminds me of something but I can’t figure out what, yet. This fragrance also seems to last ages on my skin.
A 500ml bottle is €13.99, which I think is excellent value since I actually prefer this to some more expensive moisturisers. Have you tried this or any of the other Soap & Glory moisturisers?
Like many women I love trying new mascaras. I am in search of the perfect one for me which will give me both volume and length. I want full fluttery lashes without any clumps. Soap & Glory’s mascara Thick & Fast was in this gift set that I told you about last week. It is my fist time trying anything from Soap & Glory’s makeup range despite having tied and liked a few of their skincare products.
Soap & Glory Thick & Fast Mascara promises to “create amazingly, longer, fuller, fabulous lashes. It features SUPERFILL™ False Lash Fillers, SHINE AMPLIFIERS, NOFLAKE24 technology and super-fine no-clumps natural wax film formers”. I think it adds some length and volume but nothing to get too excited about. It adds a nice bit of definition to the eyes and there is absolutely no clumping what so ever. I am really impressed that there is no clumping especially since its only just been opened because a lot of mascaras tend to be a bit wet and clumpy for the first few uses. I think I will use this mostly for daytime to give my eyes some definition without being too over the top. I like to keep my eye looks soft and natural for day time and then pack on full glamour for nights out and special occasions. Another use for this would be after using a “night out” mascara that gives a lot of length and volume but also clumps. Combing this through could remove the clumps.
The wand is probably part of the reason it doesn’t clump. I like the full bristled brush but this one is a little on the big side so it takes a bit of getting used to especially for someone as clumsy as me. You can see in the pictures where I have hit the brush off my lids but if you wait a minute for the mascara to dry, it’s easy enough to tidy up. It wouldn’t be as noticeable if I used a pencil or liquid liner; I just lined my eyes with eye shadow in these pictures.
You may have noticed in the before pictures that I have had my lashes tinted. You can now see that my natural lashes are kind of long already and so you can see that there isn’t a huge difference with the mascara. Before tinting my lashes it looked like every mascara made a massive difference because my lashes were quite fair.
I like this mascara and I will use it but it’s still not the perfect one for me, it will make a good day wear mascara. I will also be combing it through after using other mascaras that tend to clump to see how that works. The price of this is €13. Have you tired this mascara? Have you tried any other Soap & Glory makeup products?
I received this as a lovely surprise Christmas gift and I think it was a popular choice with both those who gave it and those who received it. There were a few of these Soap & Glory gift boxes under trees in both my family and the in-laws. Great minds think alike. The fact that it was one of the Boots star gifts reduced to half price for a week in the run up to Christmas made it excellent value considering it has 10 full size products. I also know a few ladies that bought it for themselves.
Soap & Glory is a quirky brand with a bit of innuendo and the odd pun here and there. It’s popular because the products are really good and the price point is easy enough on the pocket. When my husband saw the email about the Boots star gift and knew there were a few Soap & Glory products hanging out in the bathroom he figured it would be a good gift and he was right. I am really looking forward to trying everything out; other than the Righteous Butter, I haven’t tried anything else that’s in this set before.
So here is what’s in it:
The Body Products:
Butter Yourself Moisture Lotion
Whipped Clean Shower Butter
Orangeasm Body Wash
Hands and Feet:
Hand Dream Super Cream
Heel Genius Amazing Foot Cream
The Righteous Butter
Sugar Crush Body Scrub
Thick & Fast Mascara
Sexy Mother Pucker Lip Gloss
Off Your Face Make Up Wipes
If all that wasn’t enough, then there is also a voucher.
This is a really great gift, I am guessing they are sold out but hopefully they will have a similar one for Valentine’s Day. I will definitely be hoping there is one of these under the tree again next year.
Did you get any great beauty gifts for Christmas?
